When did you stop using car seats?

DD is over the minimum height (135cm) to stop using a booster seat, and DH thinks she should be allowed to. However she's only 8 and this feels a bit young to me.

Sorry for the very boring thread - had a bit of a google on the subject but couldn't find any useful information on whether it's actually safe or not - just that yes, at her height she can just use a seatbelt.

My child is ten. And only recently stopped using booster seat. More my wanting to keep them safe than them wanting to use it. Also, check where seatbelt sits. If it’s across her neck without the seat and u can’t adjust the belt I would keep using it until it’s more sitting at her shoulder if u know what I mean?

My son has just turned 9 and just still fits in his HBB but the head rest is as high as it will go. He is probably about 145cm but lots of height in his body. He will then be on a booster cushion until he fits safely with an adult belt - that varies by car. He does only use a booster cushion occasionally eg if we are taking a smaller friend.

My DS is 8 (almost 9) and we’ve just taken him out of his. He was saying it was uncomfortable and it didn’t look like the seatbelt was sitting properly so I tried him without. He’s 145cm tall.

My son is 8 and is still in his but only because his has built in speakers that drown out his sister.

Vinorosso74 · 05/07/2020 12:31

My DD was 8. She was taller than 135cm and uncomfortable in the HBB.

My just turned 9 yo DS is 150cm, 5st 5ish lbs and wears size 6 adult shoes. We took his booster out of the car last month. No problem with the seatbelt cutting into his neck which was something I kept an eye on before we decided to take the booster out.

The image that Mangomumma is right. Until they can pass every one is f those steps OR they are 11, they should be in a high back booster or a booster cushion as a minimum (yes, booster cushions are still legal).

That graphic is really helpful, @Mangomumma, thank you. I've sent it to DH.

Mangomumma thats exactly the picture I meant.

Most people moving their kids out at 8/9 may be over 135 but don't meet those points.

My 9 yr old is still in a hub.
My 11 yr old recently went into an adult seatbelt in DHs car, but needed a backless booster in mine - he doesnt meet the guidance posted above, which is what I was going to add if it hadn't already been posted.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/07/2020 17:08

Thank you all for your advice. I've told DH I think 150cm is more sensible.
