My dad’s ill in hospital abroad

I’m so worried . His wife phoned early this morning to say he was rushed in some time yesterday/last night unwell - they think some sort of gallbladder thing. He’s looking at emergency surgery . He’s awake and talking apparently but what a fright I got this morning waking up to messages from his wife .

He’s in his 60s and he’s overweight, and whilst I know from my own job a gallbladder removal is pretty bread and butter for GI he’s in Asia, no family with him and he’s ill . With corona even if we could get there I don’t suppose we’d be allowed anywhere near the hospital . Thankfully his country doesn’t have many covid cases at all; they’ve said the risk is us being from the UK .

My parents divorced some 25 years ago . We’ve only had a real kind of relationship (dad and I) for the last two and a half years . I desperately don’t want anything to happen to him and I’m so worried .

I’m right aren’t I, that gallbladder surgeries are an everyday thing and most folk recover fine? I’ve had a couple of friends’ kids who had the op and most of them have recovered OK, but they were young athletic lads in their twenties ...

Offering a hand hold, OP; of course it's a worry with him being away, but you're absolutely right that this is nothing at all to the medics

At least in the UK it's apparently the most common surgery of all - 66 thousand are done every year, so you can be quite sure they'll have had plenty of practise!! Almost certainly it'll be done laparoscopically, but even my ex - who, being a cuss, ended up with an open job - was up and about in a week with no after effects at all

The only thing he was was better, and I'm sure your dad will be too Flowers
