To not think I’m nearly 30 at 25

Seems trivial but I’m really struggling with ageing. It’s my 25th birthday on Sunday and a friend remarked that I’m now almost 30. In my view I’m in my mid 20’s in the middle of 20 and 30.

I'm with you OP. I'm 37, nearly 38 but 40 seems a world away to me. Chin up. Mid 20s for sure. You're only a spring chicken!

How could you be? You're the same distance from 20 as you are from 30.
We can only move in one direction, of course...

Your friend is trying to wind you up! Do they know you are sensitive about your age? You are mid-twenties. I remember thinking I was mega old at that age.

Now I am in my thirties and realise what an idiot I was being to think I was in any way old at 25

That was my point I guess as you said her point is my age will only go up which is true!

I hope not because I’m 45 in a couple of weeks and that does not make me almost 50!

My boss recently turned 45 and a colleague made an ill-advised joke about her being close to ‘the big one’. Boss’s face was a picture and everyone in the room looked at their feet

I remember having a momentary freak-out at 28, when it dawned on me that in only 12 years I’d be 40. 😂

Your not nearly 30 I think your friend was pulling your leg we will all get though so I wouldn’t Worry too much. When you get to 40 you may wish you were 30 again. It’s how you feel within yourself.

I’m 30 on Tuesday and I’m not feeling too calm about it...

But it’s just a number.

I guess people have never been as old as the age they are turning so it can feel a bit alien.
