Is it worth buying my 4 year old new shoes if he's in a 10, but now measuring 10.5? ( I have a home shoe gauge) He's not complaining, but they don't do they? Would you or wait until he needs an 11. Or just buy an 11 instead ? He needs various shoes so gets expensive. Im never sure on half sizes ?

I couldn’t walk around in shoes half a size smaller than I am, without getting sore feet, or half a size bigger without my feet slipping about in them. No I wouldn’t wait, I’d buy the size that fit.

“Wearing the wrong size or shoe type in the short term causes blisters, rubbing, bruising and callouses, but in the long term it could affect foot development and result in musculoskeletal issues,” says Dr Stewart Morrison, a podiatrist from The College of Podiatry and the University of Brighton.

“There should be no more than a 14mm gap between the big toe and end of a shoe in a new pair. Anything less than 8mm and it's time to visit the shoe shop and get another pair. When it comes to width, the shoe should be supporting the foot, not squeezing it.”
