On holiday in Feb, the TV in the gym randomly had a channel showing The Joy of Painting on a loop. I had forgotten all about him until then.

I watched it every morning for 2 weeks as I ran on the treadmill.

I think he was the precursor to AMSR. It was mesmerising - but his actual paintings were like a naff jigsaw.

@Butterer

Nope, definitely for real. It was a long time ago, though.

Bob Ross is very calming and my nearly twenty year old introduced me to his shows - I think they’re on twitch.

There's a documentary about him on bbc4 tonight at 8pm. Apparently you can buy Bob Ross bobble heads!

I'd heard of him - he gets referenced in a lot of American TV as he was on for so long - but only saw him for the first time on YouTube this year. I love him! I kind of want to try to do a painting along with a video but I'm so shit at art (and a perfectionist) so I know it'll end up being crap and I'll hate myself, which is the opposite of what Bob would want!

"Just a happy little tree" Love him.

Love Bob Ross.

Only found him on BBC4 a couple of months ago. DP was all surprised, saying "Oh! You're watching this?" He says he remembers him from very early Saturday mornings as a child. He has now gone out and bought a load of paint.

I hadn't heard of him until I moved to Canada - absolutely everyone here knows and loves him. My Canadian DP made me watch some of his shows and now I share in the Bob Ross love 😍😄

He was definitely on TV over here years ago, I can remember watching, and loving, him. I feel like a bit of a trail blazer now!

@cleanasawhistle

We thought the same.......then read about William Alexander

I read about him too @cleanasawhistle but I’m still on Bob’s side I think! From what I was reading it was Alexander who broke down their relationship by saying that Ross had betrayed him by taking his technique and claiming he could do it better. As far as I can see Ross never made this claim - he credited Alexander for teaching him wet-on-wet painting in the very first episode, in fact! Plus it’s actually quite an old technique, Alexander simply honed it then effectively tried to claim it at his own unique invention. It’s a real shame that they ended up rivals as I honestly don’t think that was Ross’ intention.

You can get a Bob Ross bobble-head figure that says 10 of his best lines. It comes with a little book of his paintings.

It was my anniversary present yesterday. DH has accumulated some significant brownie points Grin

How old are you? Did you have Sky as a kid? Growing up in the 1990s I discovered him on some random channel and just got hypnotised watching him paint. I didn’t realise anybody else had heard of him until recently.

My DCs are 13,15 and 20. On Xmas day this year I asked them what they wanted to do, as it was just us at home.

Massively outing myself here, but they said they wanted Dominos for lunch and to do a painting along with a Bob Ross video. I bought us all mini easels and a big Afro wig Grin
