Anyone tried to cancel an Airbnb booking due to Covid?

We have two Airbnbs booked in August as part of a mainland Europe trip through 5 countries. Even if all travel restrictions are lifted we have decided to cancel. Airbnbs cancellation policy currently only covers trips up to 31 July (fingers crossed they extend it). Has anyone cancelled a booking from August onward and received a full refund?

Yes, this week! Trip was to the USA in September.

They said no initially as like you say they are only covering bookings until end of July at the moment but our flights and other accommodation have already cancelled on us.

I said something like "please remember that how this situation is dealt with with directly influence whether we return to Air B&B when we eventually come to rebook this trip." That seemed to do the trick. Within a few hours they'd agreed to a full refund, less a service fee of approx $40

Still awaiting the refund to hit my account, but it was only authorised on Friday, so fingers crossed! I did get an email confirmation of the refund too.

Good luck!

Yes I’ve had two booking fully refunded
The latest was USA in August
I didn’t even have to argue . I just contacted the host and said I had to cancel as flights had been cancelled and he replied saying he fully understood and issued a refund ( minus service charge )

That sounds promising. One of the hosts contacted me to say there is building work happening next door and it may be noisy so I did think about using that as an excuse to cancel if all else fails!

We are driving / channel tunnel so can't use cancelled flights as an excuse but I need to check if any of the 5 countries haven't opened travel corridors.
