Eek! You might want to clean your wedding ring (gross pic)

I haven't taken my wedding ring off for years but did today ( idle twiddling) and it is revolting. I presume that's decades of soap scum and dead skin cells.

Found this if it helps.
Line small dish with foil. Add layer of salt, layer of bicarb of soda and some fairy liquid. Add hot water and soak ring for ten minutes. Scrub with old toothbrush. Dry and buff to new.

I find it amazing that you've kept your ring on so consistently!

Usually, I would put mine on before leaving the house and take them off as soon as I got home (so I'm not wearing them when I cook/clean/shower/sleep).

I haven't had my rings on at all since March!

I hadn’t taken my rings off since my husband had put them there 24/22 and 18 years ago respectively but I am now disabled and it’s doing funny things to my skin so I had to sit and work them off, it took nearly 5 hours slowly working with them. They are now on a chain round my neck. I hate the feeling that they are not there on my finger it makes me feel really unhappy. There is still a mark where they used to be weeks later.

Mine go on in the morning and get removed multiple times through the day for various reasons like washing up, showering, cleaning grot etc.

They get on my nerves a bit anyway so sometimes I just take them off for a rest. I don't really like the feel of jewellery on me.

DH said yesterday that he hasn't worn his since pre-lockdown and I hadn't noticed.

The ones who haven't taken theirs off in years : are you honestly saying that when you wipe after using the toilet or doing the dishes or gardening or cleaning, that you keep your ring on?? And then eat not having it cleaned? And touch other people? Blush

Good grief, calm down love! Grin I haven't worn my rings since March but generally take them off regularly, but what an odd thing to say. I can categorically say that I have never managed to pee or crap on my wedding ring (wrong hand anyway) and find it so odd that that would even cross your mind. I wear gloves to do the dishes, garden and clean. Don't you?
MamaDane · 01/07/2020 18:25

Then I wasn't referring to you was I? Grin I don't know why you've answered. I literally mean the people who haven't taken theirs off in years. Grin

Maybe it's because I have twins (10mo) and quite often have poo/wee/snot/spit up on me, I personally can't imagine wearing rings or anything nice for that matter Grin

A little bit of soap and a quick twist soon sorts out the muck. You'll have much more crap under your nails unless you use a nail brush. I carry an old toothbrush for just this purpose, given the mank that collects at work.

Megatron · 02/07/2020 08:38

I don't know why you've answered.

@MamaDane Because you sound ridiculous, that's why. Most people, even ones who don't take their wedding rings off regularly, are capable of not getting crap on them on a regular basis. It's kind of a basic thing to be able to do. It's actually ok for me or anyone else to answer any post, it's an open forum.

insancerre · 02/07/2020 19:53

I don’t know why having twins means you get poo under your ring

What an odd thing to say
