Travelling with child’s friend...

With air bridges hopefully in place we are hoping to go to Italy in the summer and take one of dd(13)’s friends with us ...

What documents do we need to have to prove it’s ok for her to be with us? Am insisting (obviously) that she has EHIC and travel insurance...

DS travelled to his friends in Italy last year, with his friends grandparents.

Firstly read the fine print of the travel insurance, lots don't cover under 18s travelling without their parents. We have used Southdowns insurance for DS, which was reasonable and covered minors.

Secondly, they need a letter from you detailing where they are going, who with and giving both yours and your DCs passport details. Stating that you give your permission. Also include your telephone number.

They did get questioned, as the grandparents were escorting 3 children (obviously not siblings ) but didn't have any major issues. They just looked at the paperwork, asked a couple of questions - make sure your DD knows where she is going, how long for etc as they will direct questions to her too.

Another thought, I don't know if it will be an issue, but if they are testing for Covid on return (it has been suggested), it might be worth her parents including their consent for testing in that too, as you may not be able to give consent for medical things.

DS is returning hopefully this August, the testing has just sprung to mind!
