I'm happy to buy most stuff own brand. Exceptions are Walkers crisps, Yorkshire tea, Azera coffee. Sausages and jam I buy either branded or Tesco Finest range. Plus Tampax Pearl.

IrishCream123 · 27/06/2020 16:52

Coffee-Kenco

TwistedSisters · 27/06/2020 16:52

Marmite
Ariel washing powder
Diet Coke
Yorkshire Tea
Lenor fabric conditioner
Cadbury Chocolate

Pretty much everything else I buy supermarket own brand.

Theforest · 27/06/2020 16:54

Mostly supermarket own brand except chopped tomatoes, tomato ketchup and mayonnaise.

I always used to buy marmite branded (and love it!!), but after having some supermarket brand at a friend's I have always bought that. Much easier to spread and tastes the same to me.

lazylinguist · 27/06/2020 17:02

Mostly Aldi own brand, except tea (I only buy posh tea, mostly loose leaf from independent tea sellers), peanut butter (particular brand I like from a small producer), mayonnaise (Hellman's), flour (various brands but not supermarket own brand), marmite, ribena.

I find Aldi's versions of almost everything else just as good and in some cases considerably better (e.g. their chocolate and Jaffa cakes). I don't buy their loaves of bread (crap quality like most pre-sliced bread, which is all they sell) or their coconut milk (it's not pure coconut milk and is full of thickeners etc), but other supermarkets versions are fine.

BearSoFair · 27/06/2020 17:09

Probably about 75% own brand.

But beans have to be Branston. Heinz ketchup, proper Marmite, cherry Pepsi, Weetabix.

Best own brands for us are Sainsbury's cheese curls (Quavers), Asda jaffa cakes, and Sainsbury's red label tea bags.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 27/06/2020 17:12

Mostly own brand.

Mayonnaise has to be Hellmanns
Lurpak butter
Nescafe Azera (instant) coffee - but I can make do with supermarket own for ground 'proper' stuff.

And Finish dishwasher tablets. Lidl's cheapo ones just don't get dishes clean.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 27/06/2020 17:13

Have to have heinz tom ketchup and salad cream.

mylittlesandwich · 27/06/2020 17:15

I buy actual Diet Coke but that's about it.

DeathMetalMum · 27/06/2020 17:18

Shreddies, tea - Yorkshire tea at the moment, coffee Nescafe azerra, heinz spaghetti.

I used to only buy heallmans mayonnaise, but Aldi's own brand is almost the same and nice.

devildeepbluesea · 27/06/2020 17:22

Branded instant coffee, Kenco or Douwe Egberts
Kit Kats
Fairy Liquid (but hardly used since I got a dishwasher)
Edwards or butcher's bacon. The last few Tesco Finest packs have been dreadful.
If I'm getting ice cream I'll get Haagen Dasz or B&Is (rare)

That's it I think.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 27/06/2020 17:23

Branson beans, Hellman’s Mayo, Napolina tinned tomatoes and chickpeas. All blind tested against the perceived favourite. Mayo lost to homemade.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 27/06/2020 17:23

Diet Coke
Marmite
Lone Wolf gin
Fever tree tonic
Stokes ketchup
Whiskas cat food
Tampax (weirdly, massively more comfortable than supermarket own - looking at you, horrible Tesco tampons)
Colgate

ArriettyJones · 27/06/2020 17:26

I mainly buy Sainsbury’s or Waitrose own brand.

Notable exceptions being Douwe Egberts Gold instant coffee, Schar gluten free products and Method cleaning products.

Kazzyhoward · 27/06/2020 17:27

I'll buy own brand chocolate bars because they're usually "old style" and not the horrible new recipe used by Cadburys etc.

Definitely won't buy own brand soft drinks, beans, biscuits, soups, cereals - tried several over the years and never thought they were anywhere near as good as CocaCola/Pepsi/Heinz/Kelloggs.

I'm open minded about jams, sauces, etc as I very rarely use them, so wouldn't really know the difference between own brands and the main brands.

Devlesko · 27/06/2020 17:29

A mix of both, some things I only like a particular brand, or better taste/quality.
Otherwise shops own.

PinkBuffalo · 27/06/2020 17:30

I only like Branstons baked beans. Cannot eat any others.

Ghostlyglow · 27/06/2020 17:30

Always used to get own brand of pretty much everything. At the start of lockdown when groceries were more limited I had to get more branded stuff and I have to admit, most of it is better.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 27/06/2020 17:34

Taylor's coffee
Mackay's Seville orange marmalade
Proper Cheerios
Yeo valley Yoghurts for the kids (most others are full of shite and additives)
DP will only eat Fuel granola

I think most else we get from Aldi.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 27/06/2020 17:37

Also DH will only have real Coke. And when I ate meat, the only bacon or sausage I would eat are from our butchers (they are sooo good)

pleasecaffeinateme · 27/06/2020 17:38

Diet Coke
Beans & ketchup have to be Heinz
Azera coffee
All chocolate I buy is branded but a few different ones

Nutrigrainygoodness · 27/06/2020 17:45

Coca cola
Heinz beans
Heinz ketchup
Helmans mayo
Heinz soup
Warburtons bread
Genuis gluten free
Kelloggs coco pops
Juice is either Robinsons, Vimto or Ribena
Jaffa cakes
Skips
At least hartleys level Jam
Rowse honey. I bought asdas own and its grim.
Proper dolce gusto pods- the cheap ones leak water everywhere.

Inextremis · 27/06/2020 17:48

I prefer Tesco Diet Cola to Diet Coke - it's more gingery.
Tesco Lemon Yogurt is amazing.
Tesco basmati rice is about 1/7 the price of Tilda, and I can't tell the difference.
Beans have to be Heinz, so does ketchup, and tomato soup.
Tesco Finest Camembert is nicer than President.
Stock has to be Knorr.
Heinz mayonnaise is the nicest (better than Hellman's).
Gravy granules have to be Bisto.
Chilli pickle has to be Patak's.
English mustard has to be Colman's, but Tesco Dijon and wholegrain are good.
Nescafe Gold Blend instant coffee, Taylor's ground coffee.
