Joe Wicks - if I hear ‘Shotgun’ ONE more time...

I am supremely grateful to Joe Wicks, but that bloody song - and then I hear he chose it as a Desert Island Disc. Any other workout recommendations with a great track list?

Grin I quite like it when I hear it on the radio now as it reminds me of how good I feel when working out!

Lickmylegs0 · 24/06/2020 07:32

@sittingonacornflake no, no, no, NO. That song is making me ANGRY. Very angry.

I always find it weird that it's normal in America to refer to the passenger seat as Shotgun - ie for a drive by shooting. Even kids say it.
There's also the common phrase 'locked and loaded' to mean ready to go.
Bizarre phrases to be so normalised.

I've recently found Pamela Reif workouts on YouTube. She's fab.

Sophiesdog2020 · 24/06/2020 07:49

I listened to that Desert Island Discs programme a couple of days ago, as a podcast.

He was given the authorisation to use it by George Ezra’s recording label, after George’s mum, a teacher, heard him say he would like to use music with his workouts but You Tube doesn’t allow it, without specific authorisation.

So there is a reason he chose it as a disc.

The term shotgun has been around for a very long time. It used to refer to the armed guard on a stagecoach who sat beside the driver.

Lickmylegs0 · 24/06/2020 08:02

@Sophiesdog2020 Well, that’s a nice reason. But it is a bloody terrible song. I hate it as much as I hate Coldplay.

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2020 08:03

It's an old old saying.

The driver's hands are full, so the guard rides shotgun. Wild West times.

Lickmylegs0 · 24/06/2020 08:07

So could I get it banned as it promotes gun violence?

OP posts:
Lickmylegs0 · 24/06/2020 08:08

And it’s also making me feel violent?

For some reason, every little one I know, from barely able to stand up to around the age of eight, absolutely loves that song. I suppose it's the beat maybe? But as soon as it comes on they all start wiggling about.

Gina B's workouts on Youtube have great music - lots of recognisable songs. Last week for example she added a Beyonce walk. They are quite dancy walking-style workouts, some quite short, but you can string them together.

Thank you for the workout suggestions! I’m going to do my own Spotify music workout mix and turn sound down for Joe Wicks. So far - Nirvana - In Bloom, Loser - Beck, Shiny Happy People - REM, Smashing Pumpkins - Today. Other suggestions gratefully received!
