What did you like until it 'got a bit rubbish?'

I loved watching Sherlock but then the last few series I found beyond awful and ridiculous! Gone was (imo) the clever writing and semi-believable show.

Also found shopaholic series got overly rubbish towards the end. Same with the I heart book series. Saying that, I know they're not award-winning literature to start with.

Forget changing your likes and dislikes. What series of books/films/tv shows/music did you like until.. it changed?

Marvel agents of shield I'm fast forwarding through half of it now

billybagpuss · 23/06/2020 09:56

The Simpsons I used to love it 25 years ago now it seriously grates every time I hear it.

BadgertheBodger · 23/06/2020 09:58

Greenday! Absolutely loved their early stuff, saw them live 4 or 5 times but then along came American Idiot and...meh. I think Killing Eve really lost it’s spark in the last series as well

Dexter is the first TV show that springs to mind, although most shows go south after a few seasons. Dexter was fantastic in the early seasons but truly dire towards the end. The finale was agonisingly bad.

Game of thrones is another, I didn't actually mind where most of the characters ended up, but the writing in the final season was awful.

ShirleyPhallus · 23/06/2020 10:05

Pretty little liars

The latter seasons are just complete nonsense and the fake English accent at the end was ludicrous

LBOCS2 · 23/06/2020 10:07

Prosecco. We used to drink it ten years ago when it was cheap nice bubbles in ALDI but it got extremely popular, and now they churn out any old shit and stick a prosecco label on it. It's all a bit petrol-y and generally not very nice to drink, the quality has just taken a nose dive.

So now we drink Cremant from ALDI instead 😁

Last Tango in Halifax

BeeFarseer · 23/06/2020 10:14

Game of Thrones. The final season was dreadful. I'm looking forward to Winds of Winter, whenever it's released, as I do think George R. R. Martin will get around to it eventually or it'll be published in some form. I don't think he'll manage the final book before he dies.

The True Blood books by Charlaine Harris that the TV series was based on. The last few books weren't great, and the final ending for Sookie Stackhouse didn't feel believable. It didn't fit with her character development.

CoronaIsComing · 23/06/2020 10:15

Just echoing others’ on the last series of Game of Thrones.

BearSoFair · 23/06/2020 10:21

The Big Bang Theory. I can't remember how far in they introduced Amy as a regular but that was the last good season (4 or 5 I think?) Not saying it went downhill because of her I hasten to add!

And another vote for Game of Thrones. 1-4 were brilliant, 5-7 were still ok but the final season was SO dire I try to forget it even happened.

ChelseaCat · 23/06/2020 10:21

Totally agree with TB and GoT @BeeFarseer

I’d also add Walking Dead. So boring after the first couple of series - they dragged out the Governor and Negan stories for waaaay too long

TankGirl97 · 23/06/2020 10:21

@LBOCS2 we've moved on to Cremant from Aldi too!

wentawaycameback · 23/06/2020 10:22

Agree with last Tango

AllyToNone · 23/06/2020 10:22

Doctor Who

SecondStarFromTheRight · 23/06/2020 10:24

Archer, the adult cartoon. It was brilliant at first but lost it's charm.
Once Upon a Time. I can't even remember what happened but I know I gave up.

MrsRexVandeKamp · 23/06/2020 10:25

Lost! The start of that series was brilliant and I was hooked... and then it got weird, and then it got rubbish!

AriettyHomily · 23/06/2020 10:25

The Crown
White Lines
Narcos Mexico

LifeIsHardButSoAmI · 23/06/2020 10:26

The Simpsons, Modern Family

And Frasier! Which is my all-time favourite programme. But it definitely got a bit ‘meh’ after Niles and Daphne got together. They ruined her character.

SecondStarFromTheRight · 23/06/2020 10:26

@ChelseaCat Yes to the Walking Dead. Tediously long programme.

JasperRising · 23/06/2020 10:27

I generally I go off most TV series and book series after about 3/4 seasons or books.

Game of Thrones I actually thought improved to about season 5/6 (if you ignore a couple of subplots) as they ditched the constant sexposition but the last 2 seasons were nowhere near as goodm

cushioncovers · 23/06/2020 10:32

Body shop white musk perfume until about 15 years ago and I then I swear they changed it.

SecondStarFromTheRight · 23/06/2020 10:33

It's been a while since I did a series of books or films but I found The Hunger Games a bit of a slog and disappointment to finish too. Probably wouldn't bother now.

Jaxhog · 23/06/2020 10:34

Nearly every series on TV.

banivani · 23/06/2020 10:36

Re TV I'm of the firm belief that the first season is always the best. The ideas are fresh and there's no fan service. After that characters become caricatures. This is true 85% of the time, for the remaining 14% the rule is that season two is the best, and I'll allow 1% for exceptions (but in that category the final season is always disappointing)**.
Examples: Seinfeld, Friends, Misfits, Veep, GOT, Stranger Things.

I'd like to add social media to the list. Facebook for example.

this number is entirely made up.
**this one too.
also this.

AliasGrape · 23/06/2020 10:36

Oh I agree with Sherlock, I was such a super fan and was pretty disappointed with where it ended up. I still kind of enjoyed the last series on a superficial level, but really felt they made it all into some daft in joke, completely abandoning any character development that had happened so far.

Again with GoT, I remember when the writing suddenly changed thinking ‘why are they talking like that? They don’t sound like they’re in GoT anymore!’. The way everything felt rushed and a bit ‘throwaway’ after seasons and seasons of careful build up and character development. I’m ok with where the main characters ended up (now - took a bit of reflection!) and think it makes sense, and I really enjoyed at least one or two of the final series episodes, but there was no denying that the quality dropped massively.

Suits is another one, we loved that at the beginning. I’m not sure what series it was but there came a point we had to give up.

I really liked New Girl, the first series was shaky but it got pretty good. I thought it had ended and was pretty happy where it ended up. I used to watch it with my best mate when we got together for dinner and ‘shit telly’ night. Scrolling for something to watch we found there had been another series so decided to watch it - oh my god it was DIRE. I can’t believe it was the same show. I wish they’d not bothered making any more as it almost taints the rest.
