What did you like until it 'got a bit rubbish?'

I loved watching Sherlock but then the last few series I found beyond awful and ridiculous! Gone was (imo) the clever writing and semi-believable show.

Also found shopaholic series got overly rubbish towards the end. Same with the I heart book series. Saying that, I know they're not award-winning literature to start with.

Forget changing your likes and dislikes. What series of books/films/tv shows/music did you like until.. it changed?

@keiratwiceknightly

Next. Was really great - classy, well cut and quite expensive in the 80s. Really aspirational. Now it's George at Asda but twice the price. Shit.
Agree 100%. Next in the 80s & 90s was head & shoulders above anything else on the high street. Brilliant branding, superb quality product, great staff, excellent service. Next for Men was even further ahead of the competition - there was just no comparison.

Now, they sell the same shoddy crap as the rest of the high street at higher prices. Great for profits in the short term, but they will pay the price.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/06/2020 22:52

Scooby Doo. Bloody Scrappy Doo ruined it Grin agree he was an annoying little smug fucker

Breaking Bad it dragged on too long

Lost I can’t even remember what happened

Dexter again dragged on too long

Seinfeld last two series were not at good I think it peaked serious 5

Curb Your Enthusiasm again it peaked series 5

Only Fools and Horses should have ended when they became rich perfect ending

Sex in The City what were they thinking making the second film the first was ok.

Homeland the first series especially was excellent second very good then it got boring

Boden in the 90's, well worth the money....washed so well, lasted forever. Joules same but later
Both so disappointing these days

LoadsaBlusher · 24/06/2020 00:13

Mine are mostly food Grin

Ribena - in the carton before they removed all the sugar - it used to be an Amazing hangover cure , like a sweet rich juice , now I’m as well drinking a glass of Tesco squash

Chicken & Mushroom pot noodle - before they removed all the salt - hangover meal from early 20’s

Wotsits - before they removed all the salt - they used to be much denser and cheesier

UnitedRoad · 24/06/2020 00:27

Bachelors cup a soup (chicken and veg with croutons). It’s tasteless now. If anyone can recommend and alternative, please let me know

QuidcoQueen · 24/06/2020 00:30

Last series of Scrubs. Shocker!

HollowTalk · 24/06/2020 00:32

@MrsRexVandeKamp

Yes, definitely the Crown! The latest series is just dire - they've turned the Queen into such a grump!
I've a horrible feeling that the later series was more accurate!
dayslikethese1 · 24/06/2020 01:30

The last series of That 70s Show enrages me; they got new writers and its totally inconsistent with what came before. Plus I hate Randy.

Gilmore Girls after April shows up.

Gossip Girl is pretty lame after series 3 tbh though I actually quite like the finale reveal.

One Tree Hill after the time jump.

The O.C. after series 2.

Can you tell I like teen shows? Blush

VetOnCall · 24/06/2020 03:31

Only someone who didn’t spend four years of their life watching the crushing disappointment that was ‘Lost‘ could think this.

Totally agree! I didn't love the last season of GoT but the way Lost lost the plot towards the end was on another level. I actually bought the box set of all 9 seasons as I'd watched the first couple and loved them so thought I'd watch the whole thing. I stuck it out in the hope that it would improve/make sense but no. That's a lot of time I'm never getting back Grin

The X Files - as a teen I was obsessed and I still love the early seasons, especially the standalone episodes like Ice, Fire, Drive, Jersey Devil, Squeeze, Home, Jose Chung etc. etc., but it became all about the dull/convoluted conspiracy stuff which was such a shame.

The Walking Dead - first season is amazing, and I also loved 2 and 3 but after that it's just 'psycho leader and followers torturing people' over and over again with the zombies just an incidental background detail. I haven't even watched the latest season, just cba with more of the same dragging on and on.

Yes to Glastonbury and this Festivals in general. I'm an avid festival goer but nowadays they're full of Rent-a-Crowds in their obligatory denim cut offs, wellies and a straw hat, picnic sponsored by Waitrose, posing for selfies and moaning if you dance in front of their picnic blanket

I did Glastonbury from the age of 10 until my last one in 2003, my hippy brother took me when I was a kid (he was actually at the first one ever!) and I returned the favour taking his kids after he died. It peaked in 2000 for me. That was when the first phone charging tent went up I think (Orange). It went to the dogs after that - all about the selfies, the ‘looking cool in wellies and shorts” and it lost its old hippy vibe. I can’t even watch it on TV, it makes me mad.

DuineArBith · 24/06/2020 06:52

Killing Eve. At the end of series 2 I really didn't care about the supposed death of Eve because it was blatantly obvious that she would spring back to life in the same way as Villanelle did at the end of series 1. Watched the first couple of episodes of series 3 and realised it had just become boring, so stopped. I can't believe they are planning on squeezing yet another series out of it.

DuineArBith · 24/06/2020 06:58

@UnitedRoad

Going back a bit but I LOVED The Bill. I looked forward to every episode, but then something went very wrong. They killed off lots of the best characters, and the new ones were too ‘ex hollyoaks’. I didn’t even watch the last few series’s.
This. The death rate at that police station was insane, particularly given that in so many cases it turned out to be one of the cops that was the murderer. I reached a point where I just couldn't be bothered any more.
pollywobble · 24/06/2020 07:05

Peaky Blinders was great until the last series which became a chore to watch, all style no substance

Sittinonthefloor · 24/06/2020 07:05

Netflix series seem to do this half way through series one - we’ve enjoyed the first few episodes of so many series. White Lines - enjoyed first two eps, on 5 now and it is really testing the limits. Particularly hate in when characters behave in unlikely ways R do things that people just wouldn’t do. Eg massive series of complicated spiralling problems when they would have just mentioned the original tiny problem. Also Narcos, the crown.
And Ribena, I miss ribena.

vampirethriller · 24/06/2020 07:33

Fear the Walking Dead, I really liked series 1-4 but 5 was seriously bad. I'm still angry I paid for it.
Dr Who was good until Matt Smith, when it turned into a load of twee rubbish.
Jilly Cooper's Rutshire series up to The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous/Score.

Mombie2016 · 24/06/2020 07:43

Up until a month ago I'd have said TWD too. I gave up after Glen and Abe, but would watch S1 and S2 on their own as I love their early Romero vibes.

However I picked it up again after forcing myself through S7 and S8, I was rewarded with S9 and S10.

Ilovetolurk · 24/06/2020 07:54

I just remembered Criminal Minds. The first couple of seasons with Gideon and Elle I really enjoyed, and the ongoing plotline of the Fisher King.

In the later seasons the murders got more and more ridiculous to the point where one wondered how it was possible that 50% of the population of the USA could all be serial killers and in such creative ways

TreeTopTim · 24/06/2020 08:11

I haven't watched a lot of the shows mentioned here. The walking dead, OITNB, pretty little liars, outlander, anything on Netflix, and i am quite glad that I haven't wasted my time.

The big bang theory I agree with. The last series or two were rubbish. Sheldon became a horrible person. In the early series' he was quite funny and you could overlook it but towards the end I felt myself wanting to throw things at the tv.

irisnotadaff · 24/06/2020 08:14

I grew up loving The Bill. Two episodes of pretty crime, all sorted in 20 mins. Then it became a soap opera and got silly, didn't the police station blow up at one point? I'd stopped watching by then

Cruddles · 24/06/2020 08:47

*petty, not pretty

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 24/06/2020 08:52

Oh God forgotten about Mad Men. That final season was so boring. Especially the last few episodes when Betty got sick and Don went on that road trip. Tbh it all got a bit silly when they merged with that other company. When it was the original company.

BabyLlamaZen · 24/06/2020 09:35

Oh yeah, The Good Place. Once they went to Australia with those awful fake Australian accents. I just couldn't anymore.
