What did you like until it 'got a bit rubbish?'

I loved watching Sherlock but then the last few series I found beyond awful and ridiculous! Gone was (imo) the clever writing and semi-believable show.

Also found shopaholic series got overly rubbish towards the end. Same with the I heart book series. Saying that, I know they're not award-winning literature to start with.

Forget changing your likes and dislikes. What series of books/films/tv shows/music did you like until.. it changed?

My grown up Dds bought Disney+ and we are still watching a couple of films a week so still enjoying it and I love Nat geo so have been watching that. Hamilton is going on July 4th and I'm so very excited !

oldwhyno · 23/06/2020 12:26

Killing Eve

IntermittentParps · 23/06/2020 12:26

Killing Eve for me too.
And yes, Sherlock fell victim to its writers/showrunner's ego. Sad; it was delightful when it first started and the (excellent) cast all did their level
best.

Season 2 of Big Little Lies is worth watching for Meryl Streep but nothing else, IMO.

Grantchester. Not the same after James Norton left. Struggled on and watched one more series because I did still love Leonard, but couldn't face any more after that.

The Sewing Bee. Still watch it, but Joe Lycett is not a patch on Claudia. Ditto the Bake Off without Mel and Sue.

The Good Wife! We loved it so much, then I think series 7? Cary goes to prison for literally no reason became the theme of the show and it was So Boring. Kalinda's random husband was the start of the end and a waste of Marc Warren who is an incredible actor.

Another vote for Suits. We couldn't bear it when Mike (?) went all controlling over Rachel about college argh.

TooGood2BeTrue · 23/06/2020 12:30

Killing Eve

MargotB7 · 23/06/2020 12:32

Another for me was Handmaids Tale. Is it finished yet?

LilyLocket · 23/06/2020 12:36

Yes to Luther. The last series was poor.

Also:

Power. Was fast paced and fantastic series 1-4. Slow and with preposterous storylines from season 5 onwards.

Picklypickles · 23/06/2020 12:39

Westworld, I really enjoyed the first season, the 2nd was quite good if a little confusing, I fell asleep watching the first episode of season 3 and haven't felt inclined so far to try again now that I've got Netflix and more interesting things to watch.

I had been getting bored with Dr Who but thought the last season was really good and hopefully will signal an end to the constant repeated cycle of daleks/cybermen etc.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/06/2020 12:39

Killing Eve.

Pleased to see others agree with me. I watched one episode of the second series and then thought ... nah.

Also agree with pp on Lost and also the TV show that had the greatest impact on me just because there had never been anything like it before, Twin Peaks. It was screened when there was only terrestrial TV so everyone talked about it, and it was on weekly. So old fashioned! but amazing and made for a real shared experience. Anyway, that went majorly off the rails - I don't think I know anyone who stayed with it til the end.

FenellaMaxwell · 23/06/2020 12:39

MAC foundation. Been the same shade for ever, bought it again a few years ago and it was soooo yellow. Thought it must be a mistake and took it back to exchange, and the same thing happened again.

Greys Anatomy - jumped the shark once Izzy started having ghost sex.

Jilly cooper, and Elizabeth Jane Howard - loved the Rutshire chronicles and the Cazalet series, and then both authors returned to them decades later, and it was like they decided they hated their old characters and needed to punish them. Everyone gets cancer and dies or goes bankrupt and loses everything, and I feel quite resentful that neither author could just let the characters have their happy endings.

SarahTancredi · 23/06/2020 12:42

Greys anatomy. Watching out of loyalty now . Theres the odd stand alone episode but the main characters are all leaving and they never developed the new ones enough for you to give a shit.

Arrested development. Trying to hide the fact the actors were never in it together was just weird.

Disagree with prison break. Season 2 was lacking somewhat as they just didnt decide what the characters would mean to eachother outside of prison. But I did like season 3 and considering the gap I actually really liked season 5.

Roswell, the last season didnt fit as well. I dunno it just had a weird vibe to it. But I do love it as a show overall.

Agree OITNB became kinda hard to follow

But tbh i do hate the whole " end on a cliff hanger then fast forward 6 months later like it never happened " kinda thing. Makes you feel robbe somehow.

angelcakebananabrain · 23/06/2020 12:43

Agreed with Shopaholic! Dunno if it’s still going or how many there are now but I haven’t read one in ages. Just how many times can you read about someone making the same mistakes and overstepping people’s boundaries? Just got predictable and frustrating.

Also agree with Once Upon A Time, I slogged through to the end and there were still some good episodes throughout but on the whole even for a ridiculous show it got too ridiculous and also messed up its canon.

Also agree with Orange is the New Black, I still haven’t finished the final series. The prison takeover series was appalling, I thought the one after was better but then started the last season and just got bored.

Also The L Word, it wasn’t the best show, in hindsight especially soooo much is problematic but it was the only show like it and I loved it and I still do but the last series was TRASH. Again some good moments but they ruined it by trying to tie it together with some shitty whodunit that lead to lots of people acting wildly out of character. Hate it. Liked what I saw of the new series even tho I wasn’t keen on where some of the characters have ended up but again I’ve not felt any urge to watch it all, I’ve only seen the first two or three episodes.

SarahTancredi · 23/06/2020 12:47

Should add Line of Duty to the list too.

Last season suddenly got really cheap looking with some weird sound effect trash that made it look and feel like it was fine by
a high school film club. The actors all seemed to suddenly forget how to act

Somanysocks · 23/06/2020 12:55

My last relationship Grin

QuestionableMouse · 23/06/2020 12:56

Our Girl.

First season was decent and interesting. Once Molly left though and we got Georgie it changed and got very repetitive.

The Anita Blake series of books. Fine until the turned into a mass orgy every book. No thanks.

IsMiseMorag · 23/06/2020 12:58

Yo! Sushi was great in the early days but we've stopped going because portions have shrunk and everything feels sloppy.

Starbucks. I can remember that brief period in the early 00s when milky coffee really was quite exciting and cool and Manhattan-y. And then Starbucks ate everything and burped out piles of screwed up sugar packets, used stirrers and muffin crumbs.

Agree with Parks and Rec. DSD and I had a lockdown rewatch of the whole thing, and when it rolled onto the final series, she leaped off the sofa, pressed stop before it could start, and said, 'Right, let's just pretend it ended there, ok?'

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/06/2020 13:01

Definitely Game of Thrones. I think it will always remain the worst ending to a great series, ever
Only someone who didn’t spend four years of their life watching the crushing disappointment that was ‘Lost‘ could think this. Grin
So,
Lost - see above.
Dr Who - started going a bit downhill when they got Peter Capaldi, but I love him so much I persevered. Story lines were bad, companions worse. But these last couple of series have been dire and stopped watching after about episode 3.
U2 - my first ever gig at 16, god I loved them, worshipped them and the music. But then Bono turned into an insufferable twat. But what was unforgivable was, the music got bad. Really bad.

AgeLikeWine · 23/06/2020 13:02

The Labour Party. I was an activist for many years, but I cancelled my membership when Corbyn was elected leader. I knew it would be a disaster, and I wasn’t prepared to waste my time trying to pursuance people to vote for a party led by him & his cronies.

lazylinguist · 23/06/2020 13:02

Yy to Sherlock. I was verging on obsessed with him it for the first two series. It then got very very silly.
Breaking Bad - great idea for a show. Got preposterous pretty quickly.
Ozark - see Breaking Bad.
Lost - same.

RedRec · 23/06/2020 13:06

The last series of Last Tango in Halifax was dire.

cheeseismydownfall · 23/06/2020 13:10

Outnumbered. The first series were simply brilliant but I felt it struggled at the children grew up. Possibly because the young cast weren't quite strong enough as mature actors? Or perhaps the whole premise of the show worked best with the uncontrolled chaos of young children.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/06/2020 13:10

And
Chris Evans - DFYT, TFI Friday, Big Breakfast and the breakfast shows were brilliant for years, but by the time he got round to leaving Radio Two, all I could think was Thank God.
Britain’s Got Talent - the only one of those kind of shows I’ve watched, good for the first few years. Yawnfest now.

Seapoint2002 · 23/06/2020 13:12

Money Heist

FunTimes2020 · 23/06/2020 13:13

@GooodMythicalMorning

Just watched all of Benidorm. The last season was rubbish. It wasn't great after the Garveys left.
Totally right. The Garvey's were great. The next family were so irritating. And the two dopey friends were dreadful, so cringey and unfunny.
Bioprepper · 23/06/2020 13:15

Silent witness havent watched last 2 series because the 2 series before were just getting silly.
The good place 1st series good then just went down hill.
The OA first series was excellent i was so excited for second series, i watched 2 episodes then gave up it was awful.
A lot of netflix stuff actually is pants after the first series
i used to watch soaps religiously but now only eastenders, ive given up on the rest and if i miss eastenders im not in a hurry to catch up.
