What did you like until it 'got a bit rubbish?'

I loved watching Sherlock but then the last few series I found beyond awful and ridiculous! Gone was (imo) the clever writing and semi-believable show.

Also found shopaholic series got overly rubbish towards the end. Same with the I heart book series. Saying that, I know they're not award-winning literature to start with.

Forget changing your likes and dislikes. What series of books/films/tv shows/music did you like until.. it changed?

Killing Eve

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 23/06/2020 10:39

So Many Things. I think Ozark was the most recent.
I am working on a policy now of just watching first series. I have just watched and enjoyed Big Little Lies, but am resisting the second series.

American Horror Story. First few seasons were great, Hotel was dodgy, Roanoake rubbish then got worse after that.

Yes, definitely the Crown! The latest series is just dire - they've turned the Queen into such a grump!

FunTimes2020 · 23/06/2020 10:47

Benidorm! The first couple of series were really funny, then it just got stupid and went seriously downhill.

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2020 10:51

Marvel agents of sheild really let me down I had to stop.

Last series of Line of Duty was just irritating!

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/06/2020 10:52

Just watched all of Benidorm. The last season was rubbish. It wasn't great after the Garveys left.

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2020 10:58

We stopped watching the Goldbergs last series same storylines and shouting every series start to get a bit meh .

dontjustdont · 23/06/2020 11:02

Luther.

Got very, very silly in the last series.

Sparklingbrook · 23/06/2020 11:04

BGT. I genuinely liked it when there was some talent. Years ago.
Agree with TBBT once the marriages and children started.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 23/06/2020 11:06

I agree with The Crown. The first two series were excellent. The last one put me off watching if they do any more.

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2020 11:06

TBBT just got mean!

Anoisagusaris · 23/06/2020 11:08

First couple of series of Big Brother were great, before reality TV became populated with wannabe (porn) stars who all look and act the same.

First series of Money Heist on Netflix was great, 2nd was ok and then 3 and 4 are so far fetched.

American Horror Story. First few seasons were great, Hotel was dodgy, Roanoake rubbish then got worse after that.

I agree so much. I loved:

Murder House (2011)
Asylum (2012–13)
Coven (2013–14)
Freak Show (2014–15)

Then it went downhill for me. I try every time but just give up.

I love Jessica Lange but it wasn't just her leaving.

LoseLooseLucy · 23/06/2020 11:14

Definitely Game of Thrones. I think it will always remain the worst ending to a great series, ever.

Mumoblue · 23/06/2020 11:14

Supernatural. I pretend it ended after about season 6 or 7.

Also Dowton Abbey after a certain thing happened at the end of season 3.

My sister recommended Sherlock to me and she said "It's really good but pretend it ends after the first season". I didn't listen to her and I should have! Its amazing if you only watch the first season.

aSofaNearYou · 23/06/2020 11:15

Definitely Dr Who.

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2020 11:15

Ryan Murphys stuff tends to go off kilter a bit yes Glee I'm looking at you 1Confused so AHS went the same way.

wowfudge · 23/06/2020 11:22

Most sitcoms go on for far too long and cease to be funny after the first couple of series. Only Fools and Horses went on for far too long.

Dramas - Ashes to Ashes was nowhere near as good as Life on Mars and should have ended after one series.

JasperRising · 23/06/2020 11:24

The way everything felt rushed and a bit ‘throwaway’ after seasons and seasons of careful build up and character development.

Very much this in the case of GoT. It was a classic case of characters doing things because the plot needed them to in order to get to the final positions rather than because it was consistent with their character motivations. And they just ruined all the realism around distance and travel times from the book and earlier seasons.

Lyricallie · 23/06/2020 11:29

Totally agree with the GoT and Archer! My other one is the sword of truth novels by Terry Goodkind they started off so good and then a third of the way into the series he went onto a massive rant about communism and didn't really recover after that. There was a TV show but I watched all of 5 minutes of it before turning it off.

Ingridla · 23/06/2020 11:29

@TheTurnOfTheScrew don't resist season 2 of Big Little Lies, it's excellent, Meryl Streep is so good!

Northernsoullover · 23/06/2020 11:30

Modern Family

CaCaCaCaffeineBomb · 23/06/2020 11:32

Torchwood. I wouldn't normally bother with an offshoot series but I was bored. Really enjoyed it. Until eventually I didn't because the entire way they shot the show changed. It wasn't right anymore. Someone told me they had Americanised it to appeal to a wider audience, I don't know if that was bollocks or not, I never looked into it.

Kittytheteapot · 23/06/2020 11:37

Definitely agree with
Torchwood
The Crown
Dr Who

I would add
The Three Musketeers
The Last Kingdom
The radio soap The Archers.
