Am I crazy to be contemplating spending a child (and DH) free day cleaning and organising? What would you do with anday to yourself?

For the first time in months I will have the house to myself tomorrow for pretty much the whole day. I am beyond excited about this but I am struggling to decide how to spend the day and am desperate to make the most of this incredibly rare opportunity. I have mainly been craving time alone, regardless of how it is spent, but even so....(I am fully aware this falls squarely in the category of 'nice problem to have' !!)

I have been desperately trying to get on top of the house (team TOMM for any fellow followers) but my main problem is clutter everywhere and general disprganisation. I thought having several hours to myself would be a great opportunity to make a head start. The downside to this is how much could I realistically get done in a day and will I end the day feeling like I haven't achieved anything. Also I think it's meant to be hot! Pros are that this could have a positive impact on stress going forward as the state of the house drives me a bit nuts.

Option number two is to get stuck into a craft project. I am into sewing but rarely do any as 5 and 3 yo make it hard to get the machine out in the day and I always seem to knackered by the end of the day. Could try to make myself something although nothing too fitted as have been packing on the lockdown pounds Blush

Option 3 is stand in house for several hours listening to the sound of people not asking me stuff every few seconds and just being so very THERE all the time Grin

What would you do? Any tips on maximising my time? I don't know when I will have this time again!!

Dh Andes have gone for a walk on Dartmoor, they have taken lunch 😁
I have had a leisurely breakfast, hoovered the house, sorted and ironed a few outfits and eaten ice cream. I’m now chilling on mn and deciding what to do next. Aldi have just delivered my wine order which if it were Friday would be tempting, may just take my book into the garden and enjoy being alone.

Andes should read ds

Penguin13 · 23/06/2020 12:00

Enjoy every moment Step! What are you reading? That's a good point actually, I have large pile of books awaiting my attention.

Haven't made a great deal of progress today unless you count folding and putting away the embarrassingly large pile of clean washing which had accumulated on the sofa Blush Will save me doing it tomorrow anyway!

I can beat you. I’m considering going to mortgage broker about refinancing my mortgage on my next weekday off work. I’m using a holiday day. This is peak adulting isn’t it Grin

Penguin13 · 23/06/2020 12:43

Well done Blue, you definitely get an adulting merit badge for that!

I am currently contemplating what delicious snacks I can have to accompany my organising. I think I may have to plan in a pre lunch coffee break as our local cafe does delicious takeaway coffee and will be needing the custom (it's just a coincidence that they also sell delicious cakes....)

I've just been told I have a family free evening! From 6pm there will be no one but me and the dog in the house!! I'm beside myself with joy! Can't bloody wait, going to have a little peaceful pamper then watch what I want on tv and I've even bought myself a special dinner!!!

This was my plan on Thursday. Both kids at nursery and dh wfh. I had planned on cleaning and organising the house. However dh arranged for a cleaner to come on Thursday morning for a deep clean.

I might do an uninterrupted food shop. Bake some things and the. Sit in the garden for the afternoon.

Or organise my wardrobe and declutter a bit.

Penguin13 · 24/06/2020 07:57

Just counting down the minutes until I have a blissfully empty house......

Emememem84 enjoy your Thurs when it comes!

How did it go?

Penguin13 · 24/06/2020 17:54

Twas amazing!!!! Was super productive whe ended up organising pretty much all day but it was SO worth it as I focused on the lounge/dining room/conservatory which is our main living space and it has made such a difference. Cranked the music up and just boogied away as I worked. Feel so refreshed!

I no longer have young children so if my DH were to get from under my feet for a day I probably would do some sorting out of my stuff as if I was to do it while he was there he'd be looking over my shoulder and giving his unwanted opinion (generally to chuck stuff out. He is quite minimalistic whereas I'm a bit of a hoarder but I do like to get my stuff sorted occasionally).

If you'd asked me 10-15 years ago I would have said I'd spend a lovely relaxing day sitting in the garden with a book and sod the house .

Oh sorry didn't read your update - glad you had a good day
