Looking for a knife block or set (must be able to be put on the side and must look nice!) - what would you recommend? Money not particularly an issue as looking for excellent quality

I love Victorinox. I use them in work and have a set at home. They're good, sturdy knives and not insanely priced. Treat them well and you'll have them forever. You could buy a magnetic knife rack and store them on the wall.

If the plain handled ones are too plain, there are wooden handled versions available. Wüsthof are good too and have a knife block set.

Monica Galetti knives from Flint and Flame. Absolutely first class beautiful knives. They sharpen wonderfully and they are a joy to own.

I just buy a block for knives and fill it with what I like, so I have a mix from Sabatier to Waitrose. I like to hold a knife before I buy it to see how it feels in my hand, and if the weight and length are right for me.

We use Robert Welsh knives. I really like them and they have lasted a long time.

Wüsthof. Look after them and they will last forever.

When I wanted a knife block I went everywhere. In the end I found some in TK Maxx. When I took them out the block to test the weight I cut myself!! Decided they were sharp enough....they still are 15 years later. They are Richardson Laser. True chefs will sneers at the fact they are a lightly serrated but I love them.

Some great suggestions thank you. We currently have Joseph Joseph ones and they're very style over substance and they're just wrecked - the blade coating seems to have come off!

Off to look at some of these

Following with interest. My knives are a shambles. I must get into learning how to use a sharpening stone. Are the kitchen devils ones any good?

I just have a sharpener where you pull the knife through circular blades. You hold the handle and stroke the knife through. Works well.

Decent knives last a long time. I expect to leave my flint and flame ones in my will!

Just wanted to add that it's always best to use a plastic / wooden chopping board in case people are finding their knives aren't so good as they're chopping on a glass board.

Oh no my mum uses glass chopping boards, the mentalist. Who would do that?

I also have a knife block it was a present so i had to like it and DP is forever shoving my best least worst knives into the smallest slots in it which clearly blunts them. Honestly, some people!

One been using the same set of a Global for 15 years and they are as good as new and cut beautifully. They are also weighted really well.

Definitely global knives. All top chefs use them on the telly! Watch your fingers though! 😂

We have Robert Welch knives too and have been very pleased with them, they are extremely sharp and have stayed that way. The only downside is you have to hand wash them. I have fairly small hands and they fit my hands well, which a lot of knives don't (DH has big hands and they are fine for him too).

We've used Procook Japanese knives for years and they really are excellent. They sharpen very well and have never broken or discoloured, unlike others I have had.
