Kids in street making our lives a nightmare

We moved into our house a year ago. We love the house itself and have spend a lot of time and money doing it up the way we want it. The problem lies with the kids in the street.

A big group of them (aged about 11 or 12) have started climbing on top of our garage and other neighbours garages, which are separate from the houses. Our garage roof is not the sturdiest and we have tried to ask them nicely to stop but it has continued. Today, they were up on the roof again and even climbed across the neighbours fence into our garden! My partner and I went out and shouted at them as we’re both at the end of our tether but they just swore and hurled a load of abuse at us.

Does anyone have any suggestions about ways to tackle this or security we can put in place? I hate being so stressed in my own house Sad

Call the police

Simonsaysitschristmas · 20/06/2020 20:54

Can you work out which houses they are from and speak to their parents? Failing that I would get a PCSO out to speak to them.

Thatbitchcarolebaskin · 20/06/2020 20:55

Anti climb paint/spiked/barbed wire.
CCTV
chat with local PCSO?

Smallsteps88 · 20/06/2020 20:57

Police for sure if they’re climbing on your property.

hopeishere · 20/06/2020 20:58

Call the police. Are they local kids could you speak to their parents?

Anotherscentedcandle · 20/06/2020 21:00

Anti-climb paint on your garage roof

AriettyHomily · 20/06/2020 21:02

Cal the police and anti vandal paint

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 20/06/2020 21:09

Is barbed wire fencing legal on private property?

When we threatened to call the police earlier they scarpered and haven’t been back since, do you think we should still inform the police or give them the benefit of the doubt unless it happens again?

Argh, I’ve never been in the situation before and never realised how much kids can ruin your life!

Yep PCSO and some way of stopping them climbing on your garage roof.

CourtneyLurve · 20/06/2020 21:19

Video them each and every time so the police have something to work with.

SlumdogMummy · 20/06/2020 21:21

Put pigeon spikes around the edge of the roof.

In the mean time, report to PCSO

SouthsideOwl · 20/06/2020 21:28

Call 101 next time it happens.
These are the kind of kids that will be kicking people's heads in a few years time.
Somehow I don't think the parents will be on your side? Hope I'm wrong.

Anyway, either way- if they fall through your garage on to sharp objects it's sure as shit going to be "your fault" so do yourself a favour and call the police :)

mnahmnah · 20/06/2020 21:30

Get some super soakers and give them a good drenching Grin

LizzyAnna99 · 20/06/2020 21:30

I would take a picture stick it on Facebook and ask who their parents are. That usually works in my area

DeeplyMovingExperience · 20/06/2020 21:31

If they injure themselves on pigeon spikes/barbs of any sort they can sue you.

Lollypop4 · 20/06/2020 21:34

Call the police.
But first, Record them on the garages and even record you asking them nicely to stop.
Also, use Anti vandalism paint on your garage!

cctvrec · 20/06/2020 21:44

Get cctv on them and make it well known it's there. Feral children tend to be scared off by cameras. In my case I made it very clear over FB and by word of mouth that any more kids throwing rocks, bottles or sweets at my windows and the video will be posted online as well as handed to the police. Quite amazingly, all those parents who claimed to try their best, or could not stop their kids, suddenly DID! Shock horror.

I've not had a single incident since. Parents claimed they "can't very well watch their kids 24/7" or said "kids will be kids" or stated they've "tried stopping their children" magically found they could when I threatened to name and shame them.

I have a blink XT2 from amazon which is battery powered and therefore optionally wireless. It's motion detecting, captures sound and the video quality is amazing. Notifications are sent directly to your mobile or other device (like iPad or kindle) and it even has the option to talk through it Ring doorbell style. A bargain at under £80.

justasmalltownmum · 20/06/2020 21:46

Pigeon spikes, barbed wire, cctv, anti climb paint all great suggestions.

Then call the police

Didntwanttochangemyname · 20/06/2020 22:23

Can you get that paint they use on the roof of bus stops? It destroys clothes and sticks to skin for days.

eatsleepread · 20/06/2020 22:29

Paint it with black, sticky anti climb paint. Antisocial wee bastards.

underneaththeash · 20/06/2020 22:34

I’d put spikes up too. They’re legal.
It would be easier tomorrow though just to film them.

BronzeSilverGold13 · 20/06/2020 22:41

Pigeon spikes and anti climb paint are great ideas! Make sure you put a sign up saying that's what's there though! Otherwise you could get into trouble (if I remember correctly). It's also great if their parents want to come and complain about ruined clothes, you can then tell them explain why it's happened!

tiredanddangerous · 20/06/2020 22:46

Don’t put up barbed wire; if one of them hurts themselves on it you’ll be in trouble. Speak to the police op.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/06/2020 00:22

Police, and if you can find the parents it's all concerned face and 'well, I'd never forgive myself if one of them got hurt so I'll definitely be recording them which is by the way entirely legal and giving it to the police, I'm sure you're relieved to know I'll be doing my best to stop them putting themselves at risk' :)

Iverunoutofnames · 21/06/2020 00:59

Anti climb paint. I’d be tempted to put something unpleasant to transfer onto their clothes, that will them off ( you don’t have a dog do you?)
Otherwise police.
