Schools and restaurants no..... Betting Shops - knock yourself out!

Thunderpunt · 20/06/2020 15:40

So, let me get this straight.

My kids cannot go back to school.

My restaurant cannot be opened no matter how far apart I space the tables.

However I can go into Ladbrokes (or any other betting shop presumably) and stand within inches of a bunch of other people, any amount of people coming and going from the shop - no restrictions in sight, use the same pen some other bloke used to put my bet on, stand at the slot machine and play it straight after Vera has finished playing, no clean down in between, no sign of any social distancing.

How’s that right??

Something to do with education not providing the government with any income maybe??

There are restriction in Labrokes, my DD works there and has just gone back to work

There is a limit to how many people can be in the shop at one time, the machines are placed so they are 2m apart and are cleaned by the staff after every use, the whole store is cleaned every 60 minutes

Yes, it’s because it makes money, the same as non essential shops reopening but there is a lot of work going into making it as safe as possible in the circumstance

Thunderpunt · 20/06/2020 15:51

Not in my local one they aren't. Not one of those restrictions you mentioned were in place this morning.....

Ok well that’s something to take up with the manager of the store then I guess, as DD and all her colleagues have had training on how to operate

Were you actually in the store to see that no cleaning etc was taking place?

The amount of people is worked out by the square footage of the sites

So complain about that betting shop.

Were you served food by the same person who has been serving food to the tables that are spaced out?

Were you all stood about in the betting shop for 6 hours?

Do you actually think all your examples are the same?

Is your actual question, why are we still not back to normal? Im struggling why, if your business is closed, wasting money on gambling is even crossing your mind!

Shinebright72 · 20/06/2020 16:00

I agree with what your saying. Priorities are all wrong. Schools seem to be doing all different things. My DC primary is opening on July 20th-6th August for years 2-5. What is the bloody point? Then my friends school in a completely different location to myself.. her DC school is not taking years 2-5 back and they have said they are closing EARLY this year!! For summer hols

SarahTancredi · 20/06/2020 16:00

There are major restrictions in the betting shops.

How do you know no one is cleaning?

Most have removed all but a couple of chairs . Pens are restricted and binned as soon as customer is done etc

It's not business as usual Confused

bigchris · 20/06/2020 16:02

Love that you're moaning about betting shops being open and you went in one Grin

Win any cash ?

To let them socialise with their peers?? Play sport, be outside, chat , laugh ? Ffs, what it must be like to always be miserable and moaning, mine would love to see their mates

Kahiki · 20/06/2020 16:04

So you went in a betting shop but are complaining that it’s open? Hmm

Shinebright72 · 20/06/2020 16:07

@bigchris so all the teachers efforts and planning for 3 weeks? I’m sorry but I think there’s not much point. I do agree the kids would be over joyed to see their friends. But it’s not the whole year group it will be key workers who get priority. So NO IN MY OPINION I can’t see I think it’s a fabulous idea overall..

bigchris · 20/06/2020 16:14

Well they'll all be back full time in September according to Gavin Williamson so may as well get used to it

Teachers can do all that work because , well they are still being paid ...

Thunderpunt · 20/06/2020 16:16

I'm not complaining betting shops are open.... a treble on Frankie Dettori is nothing to moan about!

I'm complaining about the priorities this government are going to places where I saw no social distancing, no cleaning (binning pens? Nope! Cleaning machines between players - nope! Restricted numbers - no checking) over education. And why if there's no social distancing in such small shops?
And to confirm I was in there for quite some time to witness this.

Maybe it's a one off...... i suspect not. ToMorrow I'll try paddy power Grin

@bigchris so they have announced but it hasn’t actually said SD will be scrapped though and the bubbles. It all seems misleading. But hopefully they kids will be back in September.

MuthaClucker · 20/06/2020 16:19

Well if you were happy to spend quite some time in a place where no social distancing was apparent, no cleaning was taking place and everyone was sharing equipment, I'm not sure your priorities are any better

Thunderpunt · 20/06/2020 16:25

I would be delighted for my kids to go back to school and my restaurant to open - happy for no social distancing- my priorities are fine thanks

Serving customers one after the other is hardly a novelty... what do they do in supermarkets?

And who are you to judge what i spend my universal credit- money on?

OP posts:
zigzagbetty · 20/06/2020 17:34

I have a number of friends who work for Ladbrokes and there are very strict rules for the staff to follow for cleaning and numbers in shop. Sounds like it is a problem in that shop with those staff, not the company as a whole.

bigchris · 20/06/2020 21:29
