Bike seat for 1year old

BuffaloMozzerella · 19/06/2020 13:16

I'm considering taking my 13 month old to crèche on my bike. It's about a 10 min bike ride and we wouldn't be on the road - my area has all the pavements divided into half bicycles/half pedestrians. I'm a competent cyclist.

Has anyone used a bike seat for a 1 year old and if so any recommendations on type? For example are the ones where they sit on a seat between your arms and secured on the cross bar safer than the ones that go behind you over the back wheel?

Thanks for any advice.

I think the advice for safety is to get a rear bike seat. we had one like this

and you can read a review of it here

I've used Hamax and BoBike seats. Happy with both. DS loved going in the Hamax at that age.

I'd get a rear seat and use panniers if you need to carry anything. The front seats looks like DC would get in the way as they get older. But I am tall.

Thank you. Do you think 13 months is old enough? How did you get yours used to wearing the bike helmet? She usually objects to things on her head!

start by putting it onto her when she is in the house, just playing. we had this one
www.decathlon.co.uk/500-baby-cycling-helmet-bl-id_8549088.html?iv_=iv_p_1_g_63052683495_c_316341522215_w_aud-308557097693:pla-306378754696_n_g_d_c_v__l__t__r_x_pla_y_15177021_f_online_o_2769274_z_GB_i_en_j_306378754696_s__e__h_1007097_ii__vi&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-4j54vCN6gIVCbTtCh2XgQQ0EAQYASABEgJx-PD_BwE
and they eventually got used to having it on inside the house, so then tolerated it when on the bike.

DS was around 8 months old when we started, so no problems with helmets.

If you're likely to use it for longer journeys and your DD still naps, get a reclining seat.

We had one that sat between us and the handlebars, can't remember the make but sure we got it from decathalon/halfords. Read alot about them and I'm sure the reviews said they were safer. I just remember that ds2 didn't sleep as well at the front as he did at the back - maybe more to see Grin

DD was 13 months when we first used the Hamax seat. I think DS was a little younger. They suitable for once they have a good independent sit.
