Anyone moved back to home town with small children?

We are planning a move "home" following me losing my job and not being able to afford to stay where we are...we've always wanted to be closer to grand parents but have never been able to find a professional job for me there. But now it doesn't matter as I don't have one here either!

I'm terrified and wondering if anyone has done this. It seems so huge to sell up and move 100 miles with small children and no jobs (we would be ok for a year or so though without jobs). I keep crying at the thought of leaving our lovely primary school, and the life we have built for ourselves, with friends and all of the favourite places we have discovered with our children.

But the chance for them to grow up near their cousins and grandmas, with us being able to work less because houses are just so much cheaper...I know it's the right thing. But I've not lived in my home town for over 20 years, it's small and quiet with not much going on. I don't know which schools are good and will worry about getting them in mid year. It just all seems bit scary and too much at the moment. Our old chaotic but balanced lives have been swept away. Has anyone done this and did it work out?
