Can someone recommend a good brand for Men's walking boots?

Last year DP bought some Merrell walking boots - he's worn them every day for walking the dog (countryside but fields, nothing extreme) and they've already fallen to pieces.

If I have to listen to him whinge about his wet feet for one more second, I will kill him.

Can someone please, please, please point me in the direction of a decent brand that won't fall apart after just a year - they must be ankle boots, sturdy but not so sturdy that I'm able to beat him to death with them for not just organising a replacement himself

[lighthearted on the beating, just in case people are feeling a bit too serious today]

TBH I wouldn't expect much more than that out of modern walking shoes, unless it is old school leather they don't last more than a year of daily walking. The soles will be too thin now anyway.

same again if they fit, or any of the standard brands. As shopping isn't a brilliant move at the moment, for now I would just suggest a repeat order.

Le chamueas going strong after 10years

@mencken I did say to him that a year seems good going for daily use but apparently a shoe should last much longer than that - I'm not a boot expert (I have one pair of trainers (3 years old), and one pair of flats (7 years old) and one pair of heels (10 years old) and that's my lot) so I wouldn't know

Try these (Mindel), they are pricy but worth it!
I have the Ladies version bought them 18 months ago.... still going strong! We go hiking/ trekking... & dog walking.

Brashers - DH loves his

Dilbertian · 18/06/2020 16:49

Dh is a mad keen hill-walker. He swears by leather Zamberlans, which last him at least 10years. But he lavishes care and Hydroblock on them after every trip. He used to get fabric boots for the dc when they were younger, but soon as their feet slowed growing, he only ever bought them leather boots.

He also has fabric Merrels for lighter walking, which tends to last 2-3years.

Seconding Brashers.

I bought a pair of Hi Tech boots a couple of years ago; they're okay but not quite right for me for serious walks. I had wanted to replace my 20 year old Timberlands decided against going for some Brashers.

They are on my list of things to buy ASAP.

I had a pair of brashers that lasted well but were heavy. DH has a Salomon pair he got in a sale and he loves them.
