Sad. Wonderful that she was still around for the VE Day celebrations though.

DH has just told me this - what a great lady!

She seems to have had all her faculties right to the end. What a blessing that is.

I actually felt quite sad hearing the news. She was such an inspiration and comfort to so many.

There was a programme on her life when she turned 100, I hope it is re:run. I highly recommend it, it was fabulous.

Some soldiers that had been captured and worked in the railways in Burma, said, they remembered the first night after being freed. They sat and looked up at the stars, and some one had a radio and they could hear Vera Lynn on it.
It was the first music they had heard in years, and it just made them realise that home was still there, and they would get back there. She meant so much to them, and was truly the voice that spoke for that generation.
I bawled like a baby at that programme.
Also, she was an East Ender, and spoke ‘normally’ in real life but had a fancy singing voice.

You have me bawling here, too, LittleOgres - what a lovely story.

It was such a lovely programme. There is a reason she was so beloved by all the people of that generation and beyond.
