Totally unrealistic to be considering a holiday abroad in September?

I was planning a trip to Russia for October, which is now off the cards as just not viable this year.

However, would it be totally unrealistic of me to plan a trip to Germany (Mecklenburg and Saxony) in mid to late September?

I'm not living in the UK but in another EU country which currently allows unrestricted travel to Germany. I have comprehensive health and travel insurance. I travel on my own and generally keep myself to myself, more than happy to have dinner in my hotel room to reduce mingling etc. I'd be travelling there by there on a route I've taken before and I know is not usually very busy.

Worst case scenario, if things got bad I could rent a car and get back home in a few hours without too much fuss. It wouldn't be a problem if I had to self isolate upon my return.

I reckon things could change massively between now and September, but should I just forget it for this year? Would local people even be happy to have visitors coming in? I feel I may be in need of a bit of a reality check.

If relevant, I'd be moving between areas that have been similarly affected by the pandemic.

Of its a few hours drive can you just not wait until the week before and decide then based on the contemporaneous information available?
It does seem foolish to book or pay for anything just now, presumably there will be high availability if the tourist market does opne back up.
