Any brownie leaders doing online meeting?

We've been doing it since lockdown and all the girls love it. Our last meeting will be Monday night and we are trying to think of how to make the meeting a bit special. We'd usually go to a local beauty spot for a walk and an icecream but that obviously isn't going to work this year. We've done scavenger hunt, quiz, charades, special guests for q&a sessions, games, crafts, and while they have enjoyed them all, nothing seems partyish enough to rerun. Karaoke won't work as there are too many (usually about 15). Frankly, at this stage of the year and lockdown, I'm all out of ideas..

Our local cubs hired someone to do an online magic show.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/06/2020 20:14

No. We haven’t heard from brown owl. Not even a message to say we wouldn’t be meeting. Total silence.

Elephantscantfly · 16/06/2020 20:20

Our brownies & guides have been doing zoom every week, how about moctails
and campfire songs in a den they’ve built At home? This and S’mores went down well for ours, of course with parental assistance. I’m not a leader, but a regular helper for years been through rainbows, brownies, guides and young leader and am completely in awe of how much fun you make the groups and how hard you work, Thank you!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/06/2020 20:23

Blowitout thank you for the idea, I'll see what I can Google.

DobbyTheHouseElk, that sounds disappointing but so many leaders have so much other stuff going on with their own lockdown lives not everyone has in a position to continue any sort of meetings.

Our Brownies group is doing weekly Zoom meetings and did an online sleepover recently with some activities like bingo and craft. That was quite full-on! We'd have a Zoom call, log off for an hour, then another. It's no substitute for real-life Brownies but it's better than nothing and I'm grateful to the leaders for running it.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/06/2020 20:26

Elephantscantfly that sounds fun but a lot to ask parents. I'll have a think about how it might be workable.

GhostsToMonsoon I'm definitely not going more than an hour Grin. Actually I don't think we've done bingo. Origami always seems a craft winner with them, I've been digging out some new ideas.

I not knocking them. I thought we might have had more contact that’s all.

elspethmcgillicudddy · 16/06/2020 20:36

Ours did microwave mug cakes last week. Sent out the ingredients with loads of notice.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/06/2020 20:48

elspethmcgillicudddy how wow, that's brave!!

Ours hadn't a virtual sleepover recently too! Much fun!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/06/2020 20:57

OurCubs isn't doing online meetings as we can't guarantee having two leaders available due to Keyworker shifts etc. (Same with Beavers and Scouts- all our leaders were Keyworkers or parents homeschooling with keyworker partners- we've been doing online badge work)

As for ideas- scavenger hunt? A bit of a shoe & tell, looking at their achievements over the last few weeks?

underneaththeash · 16/06/2020 21:04

I'm slightly running out of ideas too. We did guiding in a bubble last week, which was fun. Wink murder works quite well.

I've two online meetings left and then I'm hoping to do an outdoor session at some point later in the summer. Maybe a couple of dates for campfires and smores when we're allowed, with half the Brownies each time.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 16/06/2020 21:11

I've never heard of guiding in a bubble, underneaththeash, what's that? And how does wink murder work??

We did a scavenger hunt a couple of times, Aroundtheworldin80moves and it was great fun. It's more to do something a but different for our last meeting. We're waiting on guidelines to see if / how it might be possible to do small group meetings in the summer but it's still wait and see here.

It’s one of the dark blue (with the cogs on) UMAs. Basically you make babbles inside a bubble to represent the different layers of guiding. It’s lots of fun.
Wink murder. Chose 2 assassins abd private message then. Practice dying! The assassins private message people to make them die and the other brownies try to decide who the murders are. Works well!

FrugiFan · 16/06/2020 22:18

I'm a brown owl and feel really bad that we havent done anything online for our girls.
Usually I would be really up for trying online sessions but I had a baby the first week of lockdown so wasnt really up for planning and delivering Zoom session, and now it feels a bit late to start it up 12 weeks in!

We had a Facebook page for the parents and for the first few weeks I put things on there but after only getting likes/comments/responses from about 5 parents I stopped doing it.

I hope the girls aren't upset. We havent charged subs this term. I know the other brownie unit in the village arent doing anything either - their brown owl also gave birth during lockdown and her baby is even younger than mine! So at least its "fair".

ToothFairyNemesis · 16/06/2020 22:27

We had den building virtual sleepover with loads of zoom calls in 24 hours. My dd loved it.

ToothFairyNemesis · 16/06/2020 22:28

We had weekly zoom meetings no subs though.
