I think there’s a time limit. Press the message and hold down then click the dustbin icon and select delete for everyone. They will get a notification stating you’ve deleted it though

On my iPhone you press and hold the message then select ‘more’ and ‘delete’. It will be deleted whether read or not.

There's an option to delete for everyone but only in the last 6 minutes I think.

But they could have already ready it in their notifications so would not have to go into what's app to read it although it is correct you can delete it
