I am looking for the name of a book and am really struggling to find it with Google!

A friend mentioned a book she had heard about, didn’t get the name but has quite a deep meaning to her when she heard what it was about and I’d really like to find it for her and send as a present.

All I know is that it’s set in world war 2 and in a suburb of Paris (I don’t think the centre) and possibly in a town/suburb beginning with M. I think the main character is a girl/woman. It could be fiction or non fiction but I think most likely fiction.

A long shot I know!!!

I thought this thread might also be useful for those with any similar mystery books/films that you can’t remember the name of!

I was obsessed with WW2 novels when I was younger and I must have read half a dozen set in Paris (Montmartre probably). Mostly fairly unmemorable!

The only one I can think of is Suite Francaise.

Has she heard about it fairly recently? Or is this something she read years ago and wants to find again?

The new Sebastian Faulks - Paris Echo?

Is it all the light we cannot see?

@StCharlotte I did wonder about a Suite Française but without having read it I’m not sure whether the Paris location would be quite right - pretty sure the book was focused on a suburb/out of the city slightly. It may well be that!!

@hippoherostandinghere and @GingerAndTheBiscuits thank you - I’ve read that one (brilliant book!!) but pretty sure that’s right in central Paris (museum?) and Brittany - it’s so good though I might just buy that for her anyway!

@Bluebellies ooh hadn’t thought of that one - have you read it, does it feature a more suburban Paris?

@FatalSecrets I believe fairly recently I.e. last year but the book could be older!

Great minds Senoritaono Smile

Booksearching · 14/06/2020 16:43

@Senoritaono and @FatalSecrets ooooh could be, have either of you read it and could give a bit more info about the setting?? Is that the one that’s split between Paris and the Loire Valley?

Yes that’s right, set partly in Carriveau and partly in Paris.

Fabulous book

Booksearching · 14/06/2020 16:50

@FatalSecrets I fancy reading it myself!! Where in Paris is the Paris part? I feel like I’m being ridiculously specific but my friend was very interested in the fact it was set in a specific area/suburb.
