Dry socket clove dressing - how long until the taste goes away!?

Got the dressing put in an hour ago, but the taste of cloves is making me feel really sick, it’s genuinely worse than the pain!

How long does the taste take to go!?

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Can’t remember. I was just delighted to have a brief respite from the pain.

Sorry.

FancyARoot · 14/06/2020 15:41

Thank you. Hopefully that means the taste went away fast then!

Ugh I can’t cope 😭

Not sure but mine was horrendous pain, till two little splinters of tooth worked their way out. I quite liked the clove. Festive.

I really can’t stand cloves. At this point I’d rather the pain!

I don't think it does really go away. It's good to have a bottle of clove oil to top up the dressing with an ear bud. It's amazing stuff.

If the taste is worse than the pain chances are you didnt have a dry socket...

The taste will get better OP, youve just got to put up with it. If you genuinly feel its worse than the pain then Id just swill salt water over the area to take the taste away. The socket will heal better without the dressing in there but it will be painful

The qualified dentist who examined me disagrees.

I can’t bear the smell of cloves, or feeling sick, and I can’t get away from it.
So yes, for me personally the pain was preferable!

So then take the dressing out

Like I said the socket will heal better without it in. It is purely symptomatic relief.

If you genuinely think the taste is worse than the pain, use a salt water mouth rinse to bathe the area. This will aid in healing, and take the taste away. It risks removing the dressing but the dressing is causing you more distress than the pain

FancyARoot · 14/06/2020 16:54

I would take it out but I don’t know how, it’s in pieces Sad

For any future people reading this, it’s been 5-6 hours and the taste has lessened quite a bit!
