Addicted to Coke

Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 14:17

I'm addicted to coke.

Not cocaine, bloody Coca-Cola.

I can't stop drinking it. It's making me bloat, I'm putting on weight, I know this sounds ridiculous but going cold turkey didn't work. I truly think I have some kind of strange pop addiction Grin

Has anybody else been hooked on the fizz and how do I stop? I've tried substituting with sparkling water but it doesn't cut the mustard.

Help me!

@Eileithyiaa

I do think a lot of it is habit vanilla, but then when I go too long without it I feel like I'm shaky and "off". Like I need the sugar or caffeine fix.
Ah okay, that's fair enough - caffeine withdrawal is AWFUL so I totally feel your pain on that one!

It can be done, you just need to work through the withdrawal phase of it.

Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 14:49

Berry, I think that's the motivation I need. Once I start seeing my weight drop it will egg me on.

I am so miserable with how I look, I'm heavier now than I was when I was 9 months bloody pregnant and it's the frigging coke! I eat well and don't lead a completely sedentary lifestyle.

I don't drink alcohol, I would rather have a can of coke.

I started on Dr Pepper then transitioned to coke.

Good luckEil! I also used thinking about identity, like you thinking of being svelt, i thought about the pride I'd feel for being a non smoker.

I can't believe I've got myself into this situation.

I never thought I could get addicted to bloody coke yet here I am. WTAF.

me too. if i dont drink it i get incredibly painful headaches.

i can wean myself off and i lose a stoneish in a month but i always go back.

MamaLion1319 · 13/06/2020 14:51

I so relate! I've even been in tears to my best friend over it. I stopped buying it and do well. Then I might have a takeaway or nip to the corner shop and "treat" myself to just one and it starts all over again. It's best not to touch it at all, although easier said than done!

Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 14:53

Thanks for all the support everyone!

I might start a local coke anonymous group Grin

I used to be addicted to Diet Coke. It would be the only thing I would drink. I had to literally go cold turkey and swap onto ice cold fizzy water. It was the only way I managed to do it

QueenBlueberries · 13/06/2020 14:55

I don't want to sound over dramatic but by friend stopped cold turkey, after she had a heart attack at 43 years old.

Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 14:56

Not overdramatic Queen, I do worry about the health aspect of it too!

She was addicted to Coke, tried low caffeine low sugar but didn't like it. She was also overweight, but doctors were pretty blunt about the fact that it was her addiction to coke that pushed her over the edge. I am not sure how much she drank a day but it was loads.

vanillandhoney · 13/06/2020 14:57

It's so easily done - it's "just a drink" after all!

letsjustallbenice · 13/06/2020 14:58

i think you got to find an alternative addiction that is as good as coke but good for you.. ive yet to find it.. its a mystery Hmm

Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 15:01

Yes, if I could get addicted to water that would be ideal. It's just so flat and boring. I bought one of those infusion flasks to pop fruit in, but again ended up reaching for the glorious red can.

yes this will do it.. if everyone of us could see our arteries maybe that would be enough.. maybe they need to start selling coke pepsi only in pubs and resturants making it really just a treat not something to easily get hold of daily
Eileithyiaa · 13/06/2020 15:04

I hated coke when I was pregnant.

Maybe that's the answer, I can just imagine the conversation with DP for my sudden urge to expand the family Grin

I gave up coke about three years ago now, not touched it since. I just have 7up free if I feel the need for a fizzy drink now.

I've the same problem OP but with Coke Zero or Pepsi Max it's terrible.
I've tried going cold turkey a few times but a get a headache that feels like I've got a really tight band round my head crushing my skull and feel so lethargic and tired.

Even though I drink the sugar free, calorie free ones I still feel it is so unhealthy.
I think I'm going to try and replace some with water to try to keep me filled up but I've been trying all sorts for ages now.
I don't drink tea or coffee either so just sip Coke all day.

MashedSpud · 13/06/2020 15:13

Imagine the 9 teaspoons of sugar in each can slowly eroding your teeth until you start losing them all.

BerryPieandCustard · 13/06/2020 15:22

@Eileithyiaa I too was at my heaviest Sad seeing my weight and BMI fall is a great feeling. The whole Covid situation has really brought into sharp focus the increased risk to my health in general.
I have (hopefully!) attached some pics that I have found helpful to help me keep my focus

I'm going to do it. I have to!

Oh, same here. I don’t drink it everyday (I used to though) but I can’t resist if i’m in Tesco and see a can of it. I probably buy it every 3 or so weeks with the weekly shop. I know it’s terrible for me, and after spending nearly £3k on my teeth a few months ago, I’m really pushing myself to kick the habit and look after my teeth.

EmilyBishopmyconfession · 13/06/2020 15:34

personally i liked the taste of coke with vomit Shock

Inthebelljar · 13/06/2020 15:35

And by buy it every 3 weeks or so, I mean a large bottle of it.
