Is this weird? Bit of blood from ear

NC for this

So in my sleep last night my ear was feeling 'wet' so whilst half asleep I put my finger in to try and clear the wetness out. My brain then kinda woke me up and when I looked at my finger it had blood on it!

I used the blunt end of some tweezers to gently scrape out the blood and this is what came out...I also have a spot of blood on my pillow where it's leaked out itself over night.
I have no pain, no fever, no hearing loss or temperature. I haven't had any head injuries or any known ear damage.

Is this just a weird little body quirk? Anyone had this happen to them?

That’s not normal. You should get it checked out.

I once rushed my daughter to walk in on discovering similar the morning we were due to be on a 5 hour flight. Turned out she'd scratched just inside the ear canal in her sleep. It's not something you could see without the dr's ear thing though. Could it be that?

WeirdEar · 12/06/2020 05:36

@EmperorCovidula you reckon? Doctors apps are like hens teeth at the moment! I know MN isn't a sub for a GP but was hoping someone would just say it's normal!

I'm hoping I had a tiny spot or something, granted I've never had ear spots that bleed but there's a first time for everything! I was going to just see if it continues and maybe get it checked if it does, it seems that clot bit was the worst of it...I just can't seem to find the source, my bad photography skills haven't shed much light

@midnightstar66 it definitely could be! I can't feel any kind of stinging, so if it is a cut it must be minuscule. I'm more intrigued than worried, it just seems like such a bizarre thing to wake up to!

I wouldn't worry tbh! But that's just if it happened to me - I'd assume a scratch or a spot or something caused it.

If it happens again through the night tonight I'd probably ring the GP just in case!

WeirdEar · 12/06/2020 05:47

@VoldemortsMaid that was my thinking too but im a chronic GP avoider so appreciate the second opinion Grin

It is still producing a bit of blood, not a lot though and I guess it's only scary if it's definitely coming from the inner ear isn't it?

I wouldn't even give this a second thought although I'm not a gp caller like you op x

midnightstar66 · 12/06/2020 06:05

I'm also a gp avoider and wouldn't get checked for this alone without any other symptoms. Maybe if it persisted

Shortfeet · 12/06/2020 06:20

I don’t think you should be in the slightest concerned
