Travelling to the UK in October

Hello everyone,

We are supposed to be travelling to the UK in October for my brother-in-law's wedding (DH, me and two kids). We haven't bought our truckers yet because we don't know whether or not we will be able to go because of Covid-19.

Can anyone tell me what's happening there? Have you re-opened yet? Are you still quarantining people coming in to the country for 14 days?

Realistically, what do you think the chances are of us making it over there in October?

What are truckers?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 11/06/2020 20:15

Truckers are what happens when I attempt to type quickly using my fat fingers. HmmGrin

That should be "we haven't bought our TICKETS yet."

Some shops opening on Monday. We were due to attend a family wedding last April but it was postponed until September 2020. This has just been postponed again until February 2021. So I’d hang fire on booking your tickets.

Quarantine is still in force. I don't think it will be by October though. Unless we have a massive second wave then.

I'm also hoping to visit the UK in Oct, and/or have my parents visit us in the US. We're all OK with flying, but we won't go if quarantine is still in place, so really we just have to wait and see.

Where I live in the US we are imposing quarantine on any US visitors from out of state until the end of July, but the plan so far for August onwards is to stop quarantine if Covid rates continue dropping.

Where I live we have very low infection and hospitalization rates, and it looks like the UK has been dropping a lot, so I'm hopeful that by Oct travel will be possible again.

I think travelling before flu season starts and before the weather changes significantly might also be wise... but honestly I don't think anyone really knows how this winter will be.

Something tells me we won't be going. If quarantine lifts too late we may not have time to get tickets without paying crazy prices. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

BlushI should have guessed that meant tickets. I hope you get to make your trip

Regardless of whether the UK has lifted quarantine requirements, it looks like this trip won't be happening. Both my kids need their passports renewed and Passport Canada remains closed. There will be a huge backlog once they reopen so it's highly unlikely we'll be ready to go by October.
