Can anyone recommend a specialist in heavy metal memorabilia?

I know that this is really random.

After a relatives death we have been left with a lot of heavy metal memorabilia. I have a feeling that some of it is worth a fair bit and want to make sure that we sell it as well as possible for the deciesed's children.

A local music shop offered £200 for the lot and I am certain that they were trying to pull a fast one. A quick Google shows that some bits are going for £100.
Can anyone recommend someone who could give me a realistic view of what things are worth?
We are based in yorks but happy to do by email.
Thank you

Difficult as it's such a wide ranging thing, picture discs can be worth a fortune, but then other less obvious things like a simple 7" Stranglers single can be worth hundreds.

I'd sit on it for a while until this is over, people don't have the cash to spend at the moment, then either sell individually through eBay yourself or look for a specialist auction. Hansens do have specialist memorabilia ones so you could speak to those?

Unfortunately I think a lot of it will just be digging yourself and looking for completed items on eBay to gauge figures.

To add, I can probably help more accurately with Metallica memorabilia if you want to DM me.

Hi @EnterNight
Thank you so much for your reply. It is mainly Iron Maiden and there are BOXES of it. From figures to signed photos to records.
I will check out the link. Thank you.
I have a feeling that this is going to turn into a big job.

There is an Iron Maiden fan club - they might have ideas for dealers etc?

@Aknifewith16blades
That's a good idea. I'd not thought about that as a possibility.
Thank you.

I have a couple of early signed Maiden album sleeves with Paul Di'Anno signed outside the stage door in biro back in the day Grin Pauls signature will be rarer as he was replaced with Bruce for the majority of Maiden's career.

Maiden memorabilia will always be popular, again especially picture discs.
I agree with contacting the fan club. I think it's a paid membership so just go for the contact forms:

Or try a FB message.

Good luck!

Thank you so much again. I am a bit overwhelmed by how much of it there is and the feeling of responsibility towards him and his children.
I will definitely contact the fan clubs etc

There are 3 of those bobble heads in the first box alone! I haven't started looking at the rest of it.

Can you tell I have no idea about any of this stuff? Totally the wrong person to entrust this job to.

Is there a way to tell whether the vinyl has been played? Especially the picture disks? E.g would there be lines through the pictures? Or is it impossible to say?
This one for example.

Can anyone recommend a specialist in heavy metal memorabilia?

If you want me to do a bit of digging I don't mind. I'm more a Metallica girl as I said (I run one of the biggest UK official clubs with a couple of others), but I do know a little of Maiden merch. The Neca bobble heads are a few years old and quite hard to find now.

Be a shame to let a lifelong collection go for pittance, especially if there are kids involved. DM me if you want. Might be able to get a rough idea on prices so you can at least put a reserve on the collection.

You'd probably see fine scratches across the surface. Most purists (and with a collection as you say it sounds like he was a purist) didn't really play picture discs. I suspect you'll find a normal vinyl equivalent to all the picture discs which he did play.

And I don't know why i quoted myself there...more coffee needed clearly.

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 11/06/2020 20:49

Thank you so much again @EnterNight. That is really kind and I may well take you up on it when I have chance to go through what is there.
I did have a tentative look today but it's mindblowing!
Purist is a good way to describe him. I just want to make sure that I do the best I can.

Good luck with it all. After my FIL died we were left with a garage full of collectibles and no idea if we were being ripped off over things or not so I absolutely appreciate where you currently are.

I'm sure you'll do the best by him. Sorry for your loss.
