It's my birthday tomorrow and I need some ideas

Not really feeling birthday-ish this year – it'll be just me and DP and I've got a dentist appointment in the morning, but it would be nice to do something to mark the occasion.

Pretty sure we'll end up on the couch for the evening with a bottle of wine and some nice olives and cheeses and meats to pick at – but then that's not unusual, so not very 'birthday' Grin

Any ideas for what to do beyond a muffin with a candle in it?

Breakfast in bed. Dentist. Nice walk to the park and feed the ducks. Nice long hot bath with some bubble bath, wine and candles whilst DP cooks dinner. Followed by wine and cheese?

Bake yourself a cake and write your name in icing on it and stick a sparkler in it x

MrsHookey · 10/06/2020 19:50

Get a nice take away, organise some flowers for yourself. Have a glass of fizz for lunch and a favourite movie.

Destroyedpeople · 10/06/2020 19:51

.....posted too soon. Buy yourself some plants to mark the occasion.

You will probably have the best birthday ever with your expectations pretty low right now!

MrsHookey · 10/06/2020 19:52

Do a spot of shopping. Get a very special bottle of wine. Self indulgence all the way!

Veronicat · 10/06/2020 19:56

Cake. Lots of it.
Have a lovely day (and I'm quite jealous you've got the dentist).

My birthday was the end of March. I got a hand made card from my daughter and a hug from my son. We ordered a takeaway and I had bought a cake, and the kids did the candle thing. We then played a couple board games. It was nice. In normal times I would have around 8 or so friends around for a nice dinner - in fact we were just finalising the date when lockdown happened (they had bought me a gift voucher for a beauty treatment and gave it to me just before). That's life now isn't it.

@Veronicat I'm weirdly looking forward to the dentist too! Who'd have ever thought...? And what better to follow a dentist appointment than buckets of cake?

@OurChristmasMiracle I like the way wine features TWICE in your day plan. Strong. Wine, followed by wine Wine

And if you don't like baking just buy the best one you can find and a tube of writing icing ...

namechangecareerchange · 10/06/2020 20:39

Well it's mine today. I got DA early from nursery, had a lovely breakfast, did sod all work and enjoyed the time with him. I feel sick from eating too much sugar, but I've had a lovely day - even though I didn't even go out further than nursery pick up!
Make sure you FaceTime family too! Happy birthday Smile

dudsville · 10/06/2020 21:12

Ooh, I've got a birthday in a few days. A nice bottle of wine sounds good!

FizzyPink · 10/06/2020 21:16

My birthday was right at the beginning of lockdown so literally couldn’t do anything. I’m normally one to organise a whole week of celebrations so was worried it would be terrible being stuck at home but actually it was lovely.

I had to work all day but friends sent flowers and cocktails which we sampled after I finished, then got a nicer takeaway than we normally would, had champagne and did a family zoom quiz and then did face masks with DP. It was one of the loveliest birthdays I’ve had

ladybee28 · 10/06/2020 21:32

Happy birthday @namechangecareerchange!

@Destroyedpeople I feel like I've baked every cake recipe I can think of over the last few months... but there's always room for just one more Wink

@Pipandmum and @Turnedouttoes, lovely to hear you both had good ones despite lockdown. I'm a big fan of simple pleasures... just not really even feeling the thrill of those today. Maybe it'll feel different tomorrow.

I'm home alone this evening with the dog and we're watching On Golden Pond... so it's not a bad way to wave goodbye to 32!
