Upcycling curtains - best way?

The ultimate lock down thread!

I have made curtains in the past but my skills are fairly basic. I have an old machine to use.

I bought a very large pair of Laura Ashley striped curtains on gumtree, last year and I can't put it off any longer! My windows are much smaller, there will be loads of fabric left over.

Would it be best to take everything apart, use the fabric and lining, buy new heading tape and start from scratch?

Or cut down the existing curtain and redo the sides and re hem?

I've got to make a decision and just crack on!! Would be grateful for any advice.

As you've got lots of fabric, I think I would take them apart and buy new heading tape. I find it much easier to start from scratch than to alter things; I think the finish is better.

I think that might be a better idea with curtains.

I've bought lots of preloved Roman blinds (favour a stripey pattern for ease), left the length the same as I don't tend to put them up and down much, cut down one side to fit and just remade that side by hand. Cut down the dowels to fit, and hey presto.

It's saved me a fortune in the past.
