Who's in?

On the back of a thread on AIBU a few of us are having our ultimate GBB on Sunday, doesnt matter what time, but you must post a pic of your belly buster!

Mine is a good old fashioned fry up (well grill up, but ya know) with my mothers special recipe fried bread.

Posting now to allow time for your essential shopping, and it is essential!

Do many of you agree there's nothing more disappointing than a hotel stay where you discover the breakfast is poor

I've refused to stay in hotels that don't provide a proper breakfast, ie cooked and high protein. I subscribe to the 'breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord, dine like a pauper' school of thought and eat what many would consider a 'greedy bastard breakfast', which the one on the other thread absolutely is not BTW, just about every day.

Toast, cereal, yogurt and banana seems a bit light and insubstantial to be honest and don't even get me started on the pointless waste of calories that is pastries. Who the fuck thinks that's a worthwhile breakfast?

I eat much better when I eat that way, control my weight better and am generally less hungry, because I'm eating when I'm actually burning calories, not trying to exist all day on not very much in anticipation of a big dinner.

Today I've had 3 crumpets with cheese on, which is a bit light for me, my breakfasts rotate between:

Home made McDs breakfast wrap in these awful times when the real deal is not available (two quorn cocktail sausages, potato waffle done in the toaster and a one egg omelette with brown sauce in a tortilla)

Cheese, potted meat or pate on toast

2-4 egg omelette possibly with beans and/or potato waffles

Bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans and toast.

Egg mayonnaise sandwiches (3 slices bread, 2 eggs) if I have an early start as I can take it with me to eat later.

DP is a sausage and egg McMuffin man (2 off, double sausage, plus hash browns) and he's really missing them poor lad. We've been looking in the supermarkets but the supermarket sausage patties seem to be sold out everywhere, so it sounds like he's not the only one, so I've bought sausage meat and I'm going to make him a load for the freezer (yes I know he could do it himself, but he's currently working out of the house for about 55 hours a week and I'm WFH supposedly full time, but in reality I have about 20 hours a week to actually do) so our Sunday GBB is going to be a big pile of sausage and egg muffins, hash browns and lots of good coffee.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/06/2020 10:37

If we have guests and I know I’m going to be making a late GBB (usually more of a brunch) I bake some potatoes the day before, or microwave them, to slice and fry. Delish.

OwlinaTree · 13/06/2020 11:10

I've done mine this morning as won't have time tomorrow. Big omelette with ham, mushroom, cheese, tomato, 2 coffees and two satsumas. And ketchup of course.

Oh I've just seen this and have already done my shop Sad but will watch for tomorrow's photos 😋 that thread was utterly ridiculous the food shamers were out in force!
I love a GBB and an amazing hotel breakfast buffet is a sheer joy.

Talulahoopla · 13/06/2020 13:12

Feeling much more at home on this thread than the other one. Absolutely love hearing about the GBBs. How people cope with a yoghurt or slice of toast (never both obvs) for breakfast I don't know! My breakfast is always at least 700 calories and I'm starving before lunch! I'm all for fueling the day. Used to have such an unhealthy relationship with food, rationing portions and denying the treats so was grumpy, tired and miserable. Now I just go for it with the GB meals and a bit of training to make sure I don't pile on the pounds. Happier than I ever was!

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/06/2020 13:18

I don't have breakfast so my GBB will probably be a dinner time. But I am watching and getting ideas... so far I've got bacon (proper dry cure stuff), egg (not quite sure how I shall cook it yet, possibly slow scrambled so it's good and soggy, possibly poached, mushrooms, tomatoes and a bread product of some kind (hopefully white bread, buttered and fried till crispy), followed by those huge pancake things covered in syrup and butter.

I have let out my belts in advance.

orangetangerines · 13/06/2020 13:29

I'm hopefully joining if i get chance to go shopping tonight!!!! Currently 8 weeks pregnant and dying for a full (vegetarian) english breakfast! Let the GBB sunday commenceGrin

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/06/2020 21:37

Get those pans ready!!

I will probably have mine as a late (late!) lunch as I have no kids in the morning so will be sleeping in until my bum hurts!

Photos are a requirement for membership into the GBB Club!

@OwlinaTree Looks lovely, hope you enjoyed it :)

Was lush - second choice after Morrison's fry up.

Candyflosscookie · 14/06/2020 10:44

@zaphodsotherhead my vote would be poached for a full on GBB. You need a yolk to burst to dip your fried carb of choice 😋Scrambled are nice too but I like them on their own as a snack/light lunch.
Can't believe I think this much about breakfast Grin

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/06/2020 11:22

@Candyflosscookie

I am still working up to it - so poached egg it is! I absolutely agree with the runny yolk thing. Mmmm, fried bread, okay chaps, I'm going in!

orangetangerines · 14/06/2020 12:44

Very GBB vegetarian, am i in?!

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/06/2020 13:56

Well, I cocked up a bit. Overcooked the eggs and burned the fried bread (thanks to dog having a knees up with next-door's dog during cooking) and I discovered (again) that I don't really like sausages.

But it went bacon, fried bread, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages and an enormous mug of very hot tea.

And was 'lishus. Even the burnt bits.

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/06/2020 14:54

Broke one of the yolks but it was absolutely lush!

And THIS is why I love Mumsnet...

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/06/2020 16:27

Ok, major cheat as it's from the other week and I had it for dinner.

Candyflosscookie · 15/06/2020 14:28

@toomanyplants you win for style points! That's adorable! It reminds me of a B&B breakfast with a bustling lady in an apron called Maureen who brings you extra toast because you said please and thank you nicely. Grin

toomanyplants · 16/06/2020 19:07

@Candyflosscookie well I'm not called Maureen, but I do love to potter about in a pinny and I'd just love to run a cosy bnb!!
