How long before blood test results at the moment?

Anyone know how long before GPs get the results?
I had the test last Wed and tomorrow or next Wed are the only time I can phone the GP as I'm working every other weekday.
As the waiting time on the phone has been up to 45 minutes, I'm wondering if it's worth calling tomorrow.

Totally depends what the test was.
Some tests are very quick for the lab to be able to report, others are technically more complex/take more time.

Thanks, it's for liver levels.

No change here to all our routine bloods- 12 h for the basics and 24 hours for eg thyroid/hormones etc. Ones which have to be sent to the nearest big city are maybe taking a bit longer than usual (eg coeliac screening, vitamin D levels- but they normally take about 6 weeks even before covid). There may be a delay though in the correct GP having time to look at them, especially if they are part time, but I would expect 7 days would be plenty.

Depends on how they are categorised, around here anyway, mine have all been urgent and have been back with my GP the same day, i had my appointments at 09.35.

Mine involved liver function amongst other things.

If they are routine 3 days.

We can also view our test results online to save calling the surgery.

Which is helpful if you are offered that service.

The results will be back same day, as usual. LFTs take s couple of hours to process once they arrive in the lab.

The delays are in the GP reviewing the results and deciding what action is needed. How long that is taking is hard to say - fewer people are having bloods taken, so they will have fewer results to review. But they will have extra demands on their time at the moment.

It’s definitely worth ringing them to check.

Yes, LFTs (Liver Function Tests) are very quick once they're in the lab, but it depends how long it takes them to get there and how long the results take to get to your GP (is it done electronically or by post for instance?)

We are getting lots of the hospital bloods to process too which increasing our work. Our blood tests are nearly back to normal levels. Lots of consultants saying "get your GP to do the bloods" trouble is the results then come back to us as there's no way to divert them...this causes more work.
45 minutes to get through...that's crazy. We get busy but not like that. Bloods back in usual time though.

I phoned and only had to hang on for 20 mins.

Results normal and no further action required, which is good news.

Thanks everyone.
