Like the ones in this pic:

Also, what's your favourite colour plates and bowls? I'm erring between white or brown. Can't think of any other colour I'd like

I don't think food looks nice served on brown plates.
Personally I prefer a neutral cream colour like Villeroy and Boch Foglia, sadly no longer made.
White is always good.

Toilenstripes · 09/06/2020 05:40

Denby might do brown. For me it’s white all the way.

AfterSchoolWorry · 09/06/2020 05:46

White, I don't like the brown. It's like something from the seventies, in a bad way.

Habitat have this one www.habitat.co.uk/cinnamon-brown-speckled-12-piece-dinner-set-1783367

They also do another one: www.habitat.co.uk/elzora-12-piece-dinnerware-set-357483 the Matt texture with the toffee streaks look really lovely and feel classy.

1978?

onalongsabbatical · 09/06/2020 07:34

Ha ha - that's three of us now saying if you pop back to the 1970s OP, you'll be fine!

AnneKipanki · 09/06/2020 08:36

Try Nordic Nest .

BarkandCheese · 09/06/2020 08:40

Charity shops (obviously not at the moment) or eBay.

GinWithRosie · 09/06/2020 09:07

Each to their own OP, obviously...but I have to ask you WHY would you even want to serve food on something so ugly 😱?

Rotationz · 09/06/2020 12:24

What's everyone's feelings about burgundy plates?

Thanks everyone for responding so far - my initial desire was white plates but then I thought it might look really boring. I can't stand patterned or floral plates (makes me feel nauseous almost..!) or brighter colours like blue, green, etc. but just thought brown might look nice for creamy deserts etc. or perhaps terracota/clay coloured, like these: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G5DZC7Y/?psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&coliid=ID0DJJSN64PEA&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&colid=2SF43AA4XGWKJ

(although I realise some might find it off putting as they look like plant pots perhaps haha)

You'll never know if all the gravy has been washed off if you get brown plates. Which reminds me - a childhood friend had a brown bathroom suite in the 70s.

onalongsabbatical · 09/06/2020 12:33

Terracotta's nice but not that shape, not for eating from - those are bowls to serve nuts and crisps sort of thing in, not to eat your dinner from.

Anyway my tastes are opposite to yours I like patterns and blue and green plates, so no reason for you to listen to me! Grin

emmathedilemma · 09/06/2020 12:39

I don't like food served on coloured plates. Have a look at Denby as a lot of their ranges have a coloured rim but white/cream middle, or the mugs and bowls etc. are coloured on the outside but plain inside.

GinWithRosie · 09/06/2020 12:49

White crockery OP...anything else just detracts from the beauty that is FOOD 😂🥰 (I don’t mind a bit of a gold or silver edge trim as long as it’s classy) 👍

2020canfuckoff · 09/06/2020 13:07

They look horrid. Just white. The food is the focus, art.

MissSmiley · 09/06/2020 13:15

There's loads on eBay if you're after something a bit retro, search Hornsea or Denby, quite cool in my opinion

isseywith4vampirecats · 09/06/2020 13:35

Denby does a range in burgundy with white interior in the bowls and cups we have just changed over to the dark green ones as most of the burgundy ones got broken we got ours on ebay

DappledThings · 09/06/2020 14:17

I quite like them. But I hate plain white anything including clothes, bedding, walls and crockery.

We have Dunelm Skandi ones. White in the middle with a coloured edge. 2 of each colour in the range.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/06/2020 16:34

I use black plates for posh meals, white for every day. Almost any food looks smart on a plain black plate

AfterSchoolWorry · 10/06/2020 01:31

Burgundy is the ugliest color in the world, apart from orange and brown.

White, be boring rather than ugly.
