Best way for husband to lose a stone

Might be on the wrong chat here... My husband is 5ft 11 and 14 stone 2lb. He is a fit 60 year old and walks 6 miles a day. He would like to lose a stone. Which is the best approach? I do all the cooking. I eat keto which is fantastic for me (5ft 4, 9 stone 5lb, 48 years). I also have a pescatarian daughter and a big eating 15 year old son! So lots of different food choices flying around our house! I don't think he would enjoy keto as giving up bread and biscuits would be hard for him. He would still like to enjoy a treat here and there.
How many calories a, day could he have and lose weight? I was thinking of just counting calories and cutting his portion sizes rather than being too restrictive. MFP seems a good option? Thank you for sbt help Smile

Work out his tdee. To lose weight reduce the calorie amount by 20%. I do recommend My Fitness Pal to track calories so he knows if he can have that biscuit or if it will put him over his daily calorie target.
It has helped me lose, and keep off, a couple of stones.

My husband has loss weight doing 16:8 Intermittent fasting has other health benefits as well as losing weight.

I'd suggest to him to cut out sugar as much as possible, stop processed foods, and eat as much as he wants of veg, salmon, and some fruits - all of which will help him stay healthier than just losing weight.

Myfitnesspal works for me and is the easiest for people who don't want to stop having all food groups.

My husband lost a big amount of weight on a low carbohydrate approach - the Fixing Dad programme if it's still around. It wasnt full keto.

all the ways to lose weight are just variants on eating fewer calories - pick whatever works. Easy wins are the obvious; cut right back on cakes, biscuits, fizzy drinks, smoothies (NEVER), low-fat versions of foods (eat less of the real stuff), cereal bars and anything sold as 'diet'.

no-one ever got fat eating too much fresh veg.

My DH and I both 5:2, it’s effective at losing weight and keeping it off. I love it because I only have to think about my diet 2 days a week.

Up the exercise, no alcohol, no sweets, no biscuits, no puddings.

Dh has just lost about a stone. Age 50. He is tall and active and his bmi was 25 so not overweight but he was getting a bit of a tummy.

He upped exercise. Was always pretty good but lockdown has seen him do more cycling both with and without dc. He's also started doing some weights and body weight exercise.

Other than that he's basically just cut down in shite. He was a dreadful nibbler but has cut that down a lot. He's used mfp sporadically and realised how much he was eating. He's also taken to having a protein shake once a day which really fills him up and has helped with his shite cravings.

Other than that, he's taken to watching cycling and Eddie Hall stuff on YouTube for some bizarre reason and picks up tangential motivation.

He's looking quite fit now Wink- stomach definitely reduced which is good news. Sadly same can't be said for me.

Thank you everyone.i cook from fresh every day and we do eat well. He has the occasional gin and tonic at home. I think it's more portion size which is probably my fault. My son eats like a horse and I think it's the shift seeing my son eating so much and thinking I have to feed his dad the sameGrin. Thanks for bread advice. He's had his Monday morning way in. The shift a stone starts today.
