11 month old hysterical every nap

My 11 month old has been in a good routine for a couple of months with two naps a day both in his cot, he usually cries for up to 2 mins when I leave the room then rolls over and goes to sleep.

The past week, however, different story. He screams this blood curling scream on and on and on the second I leave. He is tired as he's yawning, rubbing his eyes etc. I go back in every 5 mins and just lie him back down (he's usually stood up screaming) give him a kiss and say nap time. Yesterday I had to go back in 20+ times before he settled. I don't want to just give up as he does need the sleep.

Does anyone have any advice? It's breaking my heart a bit but I only get two hours a day to myself to get bits done, I can't hold him for every nap but I can't bare all these tears Sad

Could you sit with him whilst he falls asleep? Maybe browse Mumsnet to keep you entertained!

It could be separation anxiety. Hopefully it won't last long but he might just need a bit more reassurance at the moment.

Thanks. I've tried sitting with him he still cries. It seems that he wants to be held more so than anything.

Maybe cuddle him to sleep, as I found 3 out of my 4 were easier to get to sleep that way. It didn't last long and they sleep fine now they are older.

Cuddle him to sleep then put him down when he's asleep.

Sorry I should of stated. He has a bottle before both his naps and falls asleep in my arms. The issue is he's waking up the second I set him down in his cot. I've tried putting him in awake but sleepy too and it's the same thing.
