Can I have opinions about this infected molluscum on DS’s arm?

Posting on here for traffic. I’d be really grateful for any help.
DS (age 10) has had molluscum for ages. This was a big one on his arm which got picked last week and it looked infected. He was prescribed flucloxacillin last week and has had 5 days worth. I’m really not sure it’s getting better and now it’s quite itchy and sore. He’s totally fine in himself, not ill at all. I’m thinking probably nhs 111 tomorrow.

Can I have opinions about this infected molluscum on DS’s arm?

Should have said, the black line was marking the red border from a few days ago. It was quite ‘angry’ looking inflamed and he needed ibuprofen for the discomfort but now it is less painful and more itchy. Could it be cellulitis?

So the red area has gotten bigger after 5 days of antibiotics. I’d be going to a walk in.

ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 21:54

Ok to wait til tomorrow though do you think?

I'd call 111 now, it's a 24-hour service so you might as well use it😊 When did you draw the line around the redness? I'm absolutely not an expert but that seems quite bad, especially as he has had 5 days of ABs already.

ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 21:56

I drew the line 3 days ago. So after that it definitely looked a bit better but much ‘rashier’ last night and today

Oh, that looks sore. I wouldn't leave that till tomorrow to be honest. What are your ooh options? Or is it A&E?

m00rfarm · 06/06/2020 21:57

I would definitely not wait - make the call and see what they suggest

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 06/06/2020 21:57

OK, just seen your update. Definitely call 111 tonight if you're worried about cellulitis. I'd be worried about infection spreading, I think that can happy very quickly.

popsydoodle4444 · 06/06/2020 21:57

Cellulitis and children are not a good mix.Kids can go down hill frighteningly quickly.Id call 111 immediately

DonLewis · 06/06/2020 21:58

What's his temperature?

TheSheepofWallSt · 06/06/2020 22:00

I’d go to walk in with that.
DS had cellulitis after a vaccination that needed ABs and Dr said absolutely to go back if the area spread.

ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 22:02

His temperature is 36.2

As above get seen asap. Especially if there is a fever. I had cellulitis and i needed iv antibiotics.

ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 22:03

How would I know if it was cellulitis? It is extremely itchy and he’s having trouble not scratching

Moondust001 · 06/06/2020 22:12

@ladyandthechocolate

His temperature is 36.2
Assuming that is correct, it's a little low. Not dangerously so, but I wouldn't be happy taken in context without checking it. Please don't try to self-diagnose. I think that needs checking and now. Does your GP have an out of hours service? If not, I think I'd go to A&E (or a walk in service if available - they aren't always).
ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 22:19

Just phoned 111. Waiting on a callback from a doctor

LeGrandBleu · 06/06/2020 23:00

I am not convinced it was a molluscum to start with and saying so on the phone might have you dismissed.
To assess the gravity of the spread, they need to see it and touch it (warmth ) . Both they can't over the phone. I would straight to A&E

ladyandthechocolate · 06/06/2020 23:02

Thanks for your advice everyone. Spoke to the doctor and have an appointment for tomorrow- she was happy to leave it until then

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 06/06/2020 23:39

OK. Hope you have a good night and let us know how you get on!

DonLewis · 07/06/2020 13:32

Hey, how did you get on @ladyandthechocolate? How's your ds doing?

ladyandthechocolate · 07/06/2020 14:05

Hi all, sorry for the delay updating you. DS had an out of ours GP appointment this morning and has now been given 7 days of clindamycin. We have re-marked the area and have to go back in 48 hours if not starting to improve.
Thanks for your advice, I find the 'late night' quandary about seeking medical care a tricky one. I'm glad he's been seen today though.
