You know those landscape photos that come up on your laptop - I normally like them. But one came up today that gave me the absolute willies and now I am horrified and fascinated all at once and can't stop googling it! Google "ladybower reservoir plugholes" and you will see what I mean!!

Grin don't like.

I am also drawn to pictures of really deep water but they scare me

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/06/2020 14:57

I keep wondering what's down the hole...

God that is scary.

Have you seen those pictures of the deepest swimming pool in the world? It makes me feel very unsettled just thinking about it.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 03/06/2020 15:09

@tinkywinkyshandbag

I needed something to look at this afternoon! Grin

H1978 · 03/06/2020 15:10

😳

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/06/2020 16:32

@BlueTongueSkinkton no but my Dad was a submariner and had to do that training thing where they strap you in and take you down into a really deep pool and then you have to swim up....

Thighmageddon · 03/06/2020 16:41

I just looked it up on YouTube, it's mesmerising and now I want to go Grin

TurnOffTheTv · 03/06/2020 16:41

This makes me feel better knowing what’s under there!

TooOwls · 03/06/2020 16:43

I googled “ladybower reservoir parking” instead Couldn’t work out what your issue was Grin

DartmoorChef · 03/06/2020 16:43

I love the photos of jacobs well in texas but think it would scare me a bit to swim in it

I'm not a fan either! Weird. Here's a story about a guy who climbed in. Very weird. www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-50318610

simonisnotme · 03/06/2020 17:43

wow
thats scares me shitless , no way would i go near that thing

40somethingJBJ · 03/06/2020 18:53

It’s very unnerving in real life. I’ve been a couple of times and it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!

40somethingJBJ · 03/06/2020 18:56

What is really weird is when the water level is very low, there’s a whole village under there which was flooded to create the reservoir.

pairofchairs · 03/06/2020 18:56

Please excuse me whilst I vomit for the foreseeable future.

chillied · 03/06/2020 19:03

Even worse!

My windows screen saver just scared the crap out of me
EdwardsNewJumper · 03/06/2020 19:33

40somethingJBJ I know, that's the really freaky part. I stayed not far from there one summer and a colleague knew the area and gave me 'In a dry season'' to read by Peter Robinson. Crime thriller about what happens one hot summer when the village reemerges during a drought!

NervousInYorkshire · 03/06/2020 19:40

Yep - this popped up when o was watching the link upthread

I must've visited or been told about somewhere like this when I was little- I used to have recurring dreams about being able to see a village at the bottom of a really clear reservoir.

I'm so freaked out by the plugholes. And weirs. And canals. I once dated someone who lived on a houseboat and I had to walk across a lock to get to it- I was literally scared to tears a few times crossing at night.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/06/2020 22:36

Ha the Lake Berryessa one is terrifying - but it's called a Glory Hole!
