Should I do something nice for new boyfriend's birthday?

Not in the UK. No restrictions here.
Expat community has scaled back group gatherings etc.

Met this bloke in December, he lives rurally, as do I.
We didn't get together until beginning of April. We had been texting every other week, though. He had to come out of his self imposed lockdown for dental treatment,
in a town near me (we live approx 35 mins apart).

So, he came over, we had dinner, drinks etc. Then lots of sex. It's good, so is conversation.

He would visit when in my town, or passing by. This happened 4 times. He brings/cooks food.

2 weeks ago, his car breaks down.
I visit him twice, once each week (as he's done with me).
It's all good, but he doesn't contact me much in between. But neither do I (waiting to see if he'll get in touch first)
I came down with flu type symptoms and a cough. No testing here.
So, even though I only normally go out for a food shop. I stop for 7 days.
On day 6, it's my birthday.
He texts to say happy birthday.
He could hitch a lift here easily. But he does not. I thought this was because he was going to a mutual friend's for dinner, and would rather not risk it. However, he didn't go.
It's his birthday tomorrow. I will be day 9, so can go out now. No temp, feeling fine. Little cough.
Should I bother?

Thanks. I suspected as much.
I don't want to appear mean, though. Especially on somebody's birthday, so shall I just wish him a happy birthday by text, and leave it at that?

Bumping.
I have recently moved here, and we have mutual friends. I don't think they know about 'us'.
Least awkward way out, please.

If they don’t know that you’ve texted and slept together, why is it an issue? Honestly, OP, you’re giving this way too much headspace. If he only comes over for sex when he happens to be passing through and barely contacts you otherwise, you’re a casual shag for him. Either that’s ok with you or it’s not, surely?

Well, if it was your birthday on day 6 (when you should isolate for 7 days) and he didn't have a car he was hardly going to pop over.

But he should have sent you flowers (do they do flower deliveries where you live?).

So no, you really don't need to do anything for his birthday unless you want a shag, in which case invite him over for a meal.
