Ideas for a walk by the seaside (South Coast)

I'm dying to get out for a walk by the seaside. Cabin fever has set in and I'm struggling. I'm slightly nervous about posting this given the number of posts I've read in other threads where people say 'please don't and bugger off with your virus' with greater or lesser politeness, but I'm hoping as it's allowed, that there's a bit or tolerance coming, plus I'm asking here as I don't want to go anywhere which feels overrun, unwelcoming and doesn't have toilets open!

So is there anywhere between Portsmouth and Hastings which has loos available, where I can go for a walk on the coast and ideally get socially distanced takeaway fish and chips? (Would be a weekday not a weekend).

No help but following for the same advice! We are desperate to blow the cobwebs away with an evening on the beach but I don’t want to have t cross my legs the whole way home/brave the sea for a wee!

You can book tickets at West Wittering beach. I think their loos are open and cafe is doing cold takeaway stuff.

It will be the loos that will be the problem, it's quite hard to search individual spots to see which are open.

They are selling tickets on JustPark.

I'm sneaking onto this thread OP to see the responses. My two DDs (5 & 3) are desperate to go to the beach. I live fairly near Eastbourne but there's no loos open there so it's impractical to take them there, so would be interested to know if there are any beaches round with loos nearby open!

Gamboge · 30/05/2020 17:10

There are loos at West Wittering beach, right up the top end of the car park.

KitKat1985 · 30/05/2020 17:17

West Wittering beach sounds awesome. It's a shame it's such a long way from us. :(

Quarantined · 30/05/2020 17:34

West Wittering beach is lovely indeed.

I think Sea Lane Cafe near Worthing has public toilets underneath it which are open.

We went to Hayling Island this week (evening) fish and chip shop was open with a very long queue but the loos were not.

getdownonit · 30/05/2020 21:29

Loos are shut and so is the cafe at Felpham

Loo’s are open at the end or worthing pier. Fish and chip shop opposite. The beach between worthing and lancing is not overly busy.

ScarletFever · 30/05/2020 21:54

theres 82 miles between Portsmouth and Hastings, so which is closer? or are you an hour away near the middle?

shittingthreeeyedraven · 30/05/2020 22:52

I’m not the OP but Hastings end for recs please! Or anywhere around Hastings/bexhill/rye etc that has some sand and a fish and chip shop (or one within a short drive?)

Twerking9to5 · 31/05/2020 07:39

Near Hastings a friend recommended Greatstone on sea. Loos open and fish and chips available!

HJ40 · 31/05/2020 10:11

I'm more to the Western end of that stretch, but have frequently been towards Hastings hence happy to go that way if more suitable. Looks like the weather will be slightly worse at the end of next week, so perhaps things will be less busy.

Many thanks to everyone for replying positively and kindly.

I live in Eastbourne and the seafront is quite busy, but everyone is distancing nicely so it probably looks more busy than it actually is iyswim.
And lots of parking spaces.

Ifailed · 31/05/2020 10:23

Pevensey bay is about 5 miles of beach, you can always find a quiet part to walk along.

RedRed9 · 31/05/2020 10:25

I drove along Worthing seafront yesterday and there was not one seafront parking space from the pier, way past Sea Lane cafe all the way until Ferring! It’s usually a case of l more spaces than cars and there was not one single one.

A drive that usually takes ten minutes took nearly 40 due to cars slowing to look for spaces.

The beach and the green were hugely busy.
