Landline and Retro Dial Phone

Just wondering if you have a landline and what age you are. Why? Who calls you on the landline.

If you have a retro dial phone, where did you buy it from?

We have a landline and a cordless phone but we packed it away because my husband thought it was a waste of energy charging it when we would get the odd call from family every now and then.

I think having a retro dial phone will get around this problem. It would be nice to have an emergency phone and not be so dependent on mobile phones.

We have a landline, with a refurbished rotary phone and a cordless one too. MIL is the most frequent caller, but I get calls from the vet, gp etc on it too.
The rotary phone was bought for its looks but has been useful in a Powercut. It’s not the same voice quality though.
The landline costs very little & MIL had it in her head that only mobiles can call mobiles and it’s very expensive to do that 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't owned a landline since I stopped living with my parents in 2002. No one I know owns a landline.

I have this one. It’s great, just call out and call in and no other features.

Mobile blackspot here so no choice. I have 3 ugly but functional handsets which are used for almost all calls. Family use voice call on messenger.
I have noticed in lockdown that when people working from home are using mobile phones they have terrible sound quality. (I've spoken to solicitors and estate agents a lot).
We also get power cuts at least once every winter. I keep an old corded phone for that.

I have 2. A 50's style diner phone on kitchen wall in silver and a green retro phone in lounge. My next door neighbour calls on them. He is elderly and won't call mobiles.

@ouch321

I have a landline as I want the internet.
30s...
Fibre is more £££
You dont need a landline for internet if you have a good 4g signal. We have homefi from Three and no landline

I’ve an original ‘70’s (60’s?) rotary dial one. It’s great, loud ring, sound quality is fine, no power cut problems.
But so many places are “press 1 for enquires about xyz, press 2 for...” etc, so it’s rubbish for lots of outgoing calls!

27 and we have a landline but no one calls it. I like to have a landline as well as a mobile. I love the retro ones but don't know if I'd be able to use it Blush

we have a 1930s bakelite phone that works .it looks nice and I love it when it rings

These are some of my GPO telephones. Pushbutton models come up for sale every now and then but they tend to be grey or ivory. The red wall telephone has no dial - it may have been a hotline at one time - so it's answer-only. All three work wellSmile.

It's not that clear in the pictures but the one in the middle is actually two-tone green.
