Just that really

What do you mean by small? Is it causing an issue? My DH seems to have a larger than average number of smaller than average RBCs but doesn’t seem to be an issue. We only know because it shows up on blood tests as being slightly out of range on those numbers

Microcytic anaemia? It’s caused by lack of iron

User47272 · 29/05/2020 18:54

The doctor just said they are
Smaller than normal. I’m apparently not anaemic but apparently this issue with the blood cells can be caused by iron levels.

Where are you from? DH is Middle Eastern, and since he’s not anaemic I’m assuming it means he carries a gene for thalassemia.

User47272 · 30/05/2020 11:19

Thanks for response. My mother is white but my dad is Middle Eastern.

IIRC, I do. Despite having no Mediterranean/middle eastern heritage that we know of, there is alpha thalassemia in the family.

SnuggyBuggy · 30/05/2020 11:23

What's the context? Has the doctor told you what conditions are being considered?

KindKylie · 30/05/2020 11:24

I do but I'm also anaemic with v low ferritin, so it's all linked.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2020 11:24

Mine came up when I had a range of blood tests as I was tired all the time. The doctor was unconcerned.

Dondevastu · 30/05/2020 11:25

I've always had this, but my iron levels are fine. I do take supplements everyday.
I have middle eastern heritage, my grandfather was half egyptian.

User47272 · 30/05/2020 11:40

No she didn’t really just said they would do another blood test in a month. So
I’m assuming it needs further investigation?
