Roof mounted bike carrier recommendations

All the discussion we've seen online for this is for serious cyclists with £££ bikes but this isn't us. We have three bikes (bog standard Halfords basic ones) including 1 kids bike. We have a VW golf estate with roof bars. We don't want to spend a fortune but I want them to be secure and relatively easy to mount and work.

Any suggestions? TIA

Seasucker bike carriers are great, but they aren't the cheapest.
We've got a couple of Thule carriers which have proved robust and reliable. I've only ever used their towbar carriers though as I'm really short and I would need to carry a stepladder to get bikes onto the roof of our car. Grin

I’ve got Thule free ride bike rack bits, but the rack that they attach onto and that attaches onto the roof bars was just from eBay. Just a universal aluminium roof rack. It works well and kept the price down a bit. I keep a folding step in my boot so I can reach!
Keep an eye on selling sites as they come up occasionally.

We use Thule 591s. They are easy to use and mount quickly on to roof bars if you have the ones with tracks.
