Is it a good idea to use Solicitor recommended by Estate Agent

We are currently in the process of selling a house (not buying another house).

We asked the estate agent who has sold the house to recommend an Estate Agent.

I have got the paperwork through and found that the Estate Agent will get a £300 fee if we use their recommended solicitor.

Is this a problem? I am just wondering if the EA has only recommended the solicitor as they will get paid extra, or even worse, the solicitor acts more for the EA than for us.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

I used the one recommended by the EA. With no problems. I would suspect there is some kind of payment but I'm very surprised they publicise it.

I think that they are obliged by the Solicitors Regulation Authority to say. as it is on the paperwork we are being asked to sign about Terms and Conditions.

I did and had problems. Pretty much had to chivy them every step of the way, like getting a 3 year old to get dressed.

Very stressful.

I wouldn't. I would want to choose someone myself and also be sure of independence.

Ask if they receive a payment/commission if you do.

I get referrals from agents, but never pay for those referrals.

They recommend me because I'm good and I'm fast. Some agents will never recommend me, because I won't pay for their referrals
