Best device for listening to audio books?

I want to start walking more and listening to audio books or radio. Which MP3 player gadget thingy would you recommend? I don't want to use my phone.

Totally your choice obviously, but why don't you want to use your phone?
I use mine as I always have it with me. I also only have to remember to charge one device! I also have a set of wireless AirPods which are genuinely one of my favourite things.

Why don't you want to use your phone? Not trying to be picky but the reason you don't want to use it will change what is good to recommend.

Thank you for your replies. I need a new phone, and that's a whole other conversation I suppose. I have a Motorola G4 which is ok, but not sure the current memory will stand up to audio books. Not the best at IT, and hoped I could take advice, get something for my books and set it up. My alternative is asking my teenagers for help which will result in a row and probably more cost than necessary!

I have a Kindle Fire which is excellent. At the moment I have some super books downloaded from my Library.

If you're after a new phone then I would put the money you would spend on an MP3 player or whatever, towards one with a decent memory.
Personally we've always had iPhones so I can't really advise on anything else, except DS has just defected and got a Google Pixel which seems to do as much as our fancy pants iPhones, and at half the cost Confused

I listen to audio books at night and didn't want to use my phone so I bought a second hand iPod nano. Tiny, and it clips onto whatever I'm wearing. In fact if you only put one book at a time on you could get away with an iPod shuffle. Other little clippey MP3 players exist I'm sure.

Alexa. I also Bluetooth to my car radio.
