My teenage son, vomits if he has chicken and alcohol together...

He is 18

It has happened on and off for over a year.

At first DH and I used to sympathise but secretly think you were probably caning the beer matey boy.

But since lock down we have seen it for ourselves, we BBQd a few weeks ago, he had three or four chicken drumsticks, some coleslaw and three Peronis.

He threw up the next morning.

I did a chicken curry and he ate it and had a glass of wine, same thing

It is most odd, he can eat his own body weight in lamb and beef but a chicken alcohol combo makes him ill, but there appears to be no obvious amount that triggers it.

Anyone have any ideas ?

It is definitely not food poisoning.

The next morning? So hours later? Sounds more like a weird coincidence as both chicken and beer would be well beyond stomach and thus no vomit-able by that time.

That’s so odd - I can’t imagine why if it’s happening hours later. My brother vomits immediately after raw tomato - he’s fine with cooked ones Confused

Oh i can drink loads of different alcohol and be fine but anything with apple in it and I'm sick.
I'd say it's just the combination his stomach doesn't like.

My dd can't eat McDonald's chicken. She's had it 4 times and every time has been sick (first time we didn't realise, second thought it was a coincidence, third time we decided it was definitely a "thing", fourth time her friends suggested it was just the burgers so she tried nuggets). She doesn't eat it now (and has probably only been there 6 times in her life anyway). I do wonder what causes it.

A friend used to get a rash if she drank vodka and orange, but was fine with both separately

I can believe it to be honest. I've developed some kind of intolerance to alcohol at 34 years old. In my younger days I could drink all sorts, any combinations and be ok but now even a couple of small drinks make me throw up the next morning or if I have more than that I get crippling migraines and all day vomiting. It will just be his stomach not liking the mix, he will just have to avoid it in future I suppose.

Some people throw up as a reaction to a headache. Dh does. Today’s teens don’t drink that much! Less opportunity now? I don’t drink very often now and 3 Peroni would be a lot for my “lean body weight”. and if I didn’t have enough water on a sunny day i’d be poorly the next.
