Sorting Lego by colour

I am considering sorting my DCs very considerable Lego collection into colours. At the moment it's all just dumped into drawers. There are 8 drawers so they could be separate.

It will hopefully help then rebuild sets?

Has anyone done this. Is it just a phenomenal waste of time? I am realistic that I'll end up doing 90% of the sorting.....

Do t do it by colour, do it by shape/style. That will help your children find the bits they need

We did it a few years ago but it was so we could rebuild a load of models, and it was easier finding the right bits if we started out by colours.

I wouldn't bother if they're just going to be mixed up again the next time it's used.
