How can I tell if DS is playing on his phone at night?

Is there a way (in settings) that I can find out what time DS turns his iphone off at night?
Or, more specifically, if he is turning it on again and playing on it after he should be asleep?
I have strong suspicions that he is playing on his phone after lights out but I don’t want to accuse him without proof!
If I ask him outright he will just deny it.
He doesn’t usually have the phone in his room at night during normal times but during lockdown we have let that slip (my fault).
I want to trust him and not treat him like a baby (he is 13) but I strongly suspect from his tiredness levels that he is playing on it until the early hours.
Is there a way I can check?

Isn't this why some parents ask for all devices to be charged downstairs overnight or in a basket on the landing?

Maybe atb23 it's time to just have an honest convo with him.

When you say tiredness is it that he can't wake up? Because at that at full teenage sleep in till lunchtime kicks in.

Is it an iPhone? If so you can look at the screen time in the settings. It will tell you how many hours a day he is using it and when.

Sorry, typo
At 13 that should say!

Charge it downstairs overnight.

I've got an almost 13 year old. We have a no phones at night rule & it's left downstairs when he goes to bed.

Witchend · 23/05/2020 07:35

Tell them it's downstairs overnight. If he doesn't use it he won't be that bothered.
If he moans dreadfully he probably does.

If you also have an iPhone you can link his to yours as a child account and set it up with screen time limits.

At 13 my kids had to leave phones in hall/study/kitchen. Not bedrooms. They just can't resist the temptation.

CountryPlumpkin · 23/05/2020 07:49

No screens in kids bedrooms.

Otherwise, set up an Apple family, link his phone to the family as a child account and away you go.

Google family link.. My son's phone is incapacitated between 8pm and 8am.

Go to settings, battery. It should show roughly when he has been active. This is what mine looks like

I have a WiFi blocker app on my phone that shuts down specific devices at different times

PlanDeRaccordement · 23/05/2020 08:21

Does it matter? There is no school the next day so there is no reason why he can’t stay up late on a phone if he wants to. I’d just let it be, he will learn to self-regulate. If he does this on school nights, then step in.
